On Monday, June 15, Southeastern Health will begin allowing one visitor per patient for individuals who will be undergoing procedures, such as surgeries, colonoscopies, and cardiac catheterizations, at both Southeastern Regional Medical Center and The Surgery Center at Southeastern Health Park. For medical center patients requiring admission following their procedure, visitation will end once the patient is prepared to be transferred to the inpatient room.

“We are implementing a phased approach to allowing visitors to ensure we are proceeding safely,” said SeHealth Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jason Cox. “We will monitor this first phase and re-evaluate allowing visitors to other areas of the health system next week.”

Visitors who will be allowed to accompany patients having procedures are asked to enter through the main entrance of SRMC and The Surgery Center, where they will have their temperature checked and be asked screening questions. Visitors are encouraged to wear their own personal face coverings but, in cases where none is available, a face mask will be provided by the screener. Face coverings must be worn continuously throughout the visit.

General visitation restrictions remain in place at all SeHealth facilities with the following exceptions:

  • Laboring mothers may have one support person.
  • Patients under the age of 18 may be accompanied by one parent or guardian.
  • Patients who have dementia or require communication assistance may have one assistant with them.
  • End-of-life situations are evaluated to determine the appropriate number of visitors.

Throughout visitation restrictions, SeHealth has worked with families, caregivers, and patients to facilitate alternate communication channels through telephone calls and virtual Facetime visits.

“To prevent the spread of COVID-19, social separation measures and infection prevention protocols were put in place to safeguard patients and families,” said SeHealth Guest Services Director Alicia Oxendine. “Our health care system has been dedicated to ensuring and maintaining the connection between clinicians, patients, and their loved ones during these trying times.”
