Bladen County Special Olympics Spring Games will take place on Thursday, May 3, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Middle School football field.

Special Olympics Bladen County is an accredited subprogram of Special Olympics North Carolina, Inc., offering year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the many coaches, sports officials, local program committee members and other supporters involved in Special Olympics. More than 100 athletes participate in Special Olympics in Bladen County. This year we are excited to celebrate 50 years of joy, courage and empowerment. Since 1968, the organization has used the transformative power of sports to improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Nearly 40,000 athletes in North Carolina inspire thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members and event organizers involved in Special Olympics statewide.

Our competitive events will include softball throw, standing/running long jump, 25M/100M dash and walk, and more. In addition to competition activities there will be have music, a banner competition, face painting, fun and inclusive activities for our young athletes (ages 2-7) and through unified partnering. It will be fun for everyone! This year’s theme is IMpossible.

There is still time to register for athlete participation and volunteering. We are continuously welcoming momentary donations, sponsorships, and donations of goods and/or services which provide our local program with the support needed to hold this event and provide additional year-round opportunities. All donations will help provide athletic uniforms, awards, sports training and competition facilities, coaches’ education, transportation and much more. No athlete or family is ever asked to pay a fee of any kind to participate in Special Olympics.
