SO WorkersThe Special Olympics will take place tomorrow, Friday, April 17th the Elizabethtown Middle School football field. Volunteers have been working hard to get ready for the Special Olympics. Yesterday was a very busy day. Volunteers came from Dublin First Baptist Church/Lake Church came and built a ramp needed. Christina Smith worked all day on game event assignments. Edie McKnight, Rev. Tom and Mrs. Kay Martin sorted and deliver shirts.

A Torch Run at 9 am will start at the courthouse and end at the school’s football field. Opening Ceremonies will begin around 9:40 am to officially start the games. This year’s spring games will be in memory of Tacoma “Taco” Amberger. The team that wins our banner contest will receive a taco party in honor of Taco. We have lots to look forward to!

Ms. Gaye Davis and the West Bladen Dream Team will lead the games for the event. Bladenboro Middle School Beta Club will be running Olympic Town. Miss Bladenboro Lindsey Herring will be singing with some of the athletes, along with students from East Bladen High School, and West Bladen High School students will be signing the songs.  There also will be face painting, food donated by Burger King, water donated by First Bank, and a DJ with music after the closing ceremony.

Volunteers are needed to assist the athletes, set up tents, assist with games and clean up after ceremony. Tents are also needed for the event. If you would like to assist with this event you may contact, Elaine McIntyre -910-549-8876, emcintyre@bladen.k12.nc.us.
