Defending champion Tar Heel routed Elizabethtown 54-9 Tuesday in the semifinals of the Bladen County Middle School boys’ basketball tournament.

The Panthers, who are hosting the tournament, will play Bladenboro for the title. The Bulldogs eliminated Clarkton School of Discovery in the other semifinal.

The Tar Heel boys defeated Bladenboro 43-23 in the championship game last year.

The girls’ championship will feature defending champion Elizabethtown against Bladenboro.

The title games were scheduled Wednesday, but Bladen County Schools cancelled classes because of potential severe weather. The games will be rescheduled at a later date.

Baseball: East Bladen 1, West Brunswick 0 — The Eagles (1-2) didn’t get a base hit, yet won for the first time, in a game that featured a pitching duel between Jayce Hatcher and West Brunswick’s Garrett Powell. The lone run came in the third inning when Andrew Musselwhite walked, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, then scored on Powell’s errant pickoff attempt. Hatcher allowed three hits and struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings before Easton Bostic retired the final batter. Powell struck out 11.

Girls’ Soccer: East Bladen 1, Lumberton 1 — The Eagles and Pirates played to a draw in a non-conference contest. Jackie Medina-Leal scored for East Bladen (1-0-1) while Brittany Hernandez scored Lumberton’s goal.

JV Baseball: East Bladen 6, West Brunswick 2 — Cade Rogers pitched a five-hitter and struck out seven and the Eagles defense didn’t make an error in a season-opening victory. Chandler Wall drove in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly. Fox Sutton and Landon Scott had run-producing singles.
