Chris Cromartie Has 6 Tackles for Campbell

BUIES CREEK – Former East Bladen star Chris Cromartie made 6 tackles Saturday, but his Campbell Camels dropped a 30-7 Big South Conference decision to No. 11-ranked Kennesaw State on Homecoming Day.

Levi Wiggins returned a Kennesaw State fumble 94 yards for a touchdown midway the 2nd quarter to give the Camels a 7-0 lead. READ MORE

NCHSAA Class 2A Volleyball Playoffs: South Lenoir 3, East Bladen 0

East Bladen High SchoolDEEP RUN – South Lenoir, the No. 3 seed, defeated East Bladen 3-0 Saturday in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A volleyball playoffs by set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-18.

Football: East Bladen 49, Midway 35

Needing a win Friday night to keep its playoff hopes alive, East Bladen executed its game plan to near perfection in outscoring Midway 49-35 on Senior Night at Lenon Fisher Stadium.

The Eagles improved to 3-2 in the Southeastern Athletic Conference and 4-5 overall. East Bladen closes the season next Friday at Clinton (4-1, 6-2). READ MORE

Football: Clinton 49, West Bladen 16

West Bladen High School LogoBLADENBORO – Junior Onias Robinson ran for 3 touchdowns as Clinton built a 43-0 halftime lead then withstood a couple of big touchdown plays by West Bladen in the 2nd half  for a 49-16 Southeastern Athletic Conference football victory.

Junior Onias Robinson scored on touchdown runs of 4, 13 and 17 yards and finished with 74 yards on 10 carries. Senior quarterback Blake Smith hurled a 41-yard TD pass to junior Jeriah Goodman for the 1st Clinton score. READ MORE

Class 2A Mid East Girls’ Regionals: Bladen Girls Eliminated

BURLINGTON – East Bladen’s Heather Hardin, West Bladen’s Kaden Thurman and the East Bladen doubles team of Jayden Willington and McKenzie Williams were all eliminated in the Class 2A Mid East Girls’ Tennis Regionals Friday.

Jordan-Matthews’ Maggie Thornton defeated Hardin 6-3, 6-2. Franklin Academy’s Abby Armistead and Anisah Sison defeated Willington and Williams 6-0, 6-0, and Thurman was defeated in her first round match by Keurthi Avula, the No. 3 overall seed, from Raleigh Charter.

Boys’ Soccer St. Pauls 2, East Bladen 1, OT

East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – St. Pauls senior Anthony Sosa scored the winning goal on a long shot in the 92nd minute and edged East Bladen 2-1 in overtime Thursday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference boys’ soccer action.

East Bladen Receives Berth in Volleyball Playoffs

East Bladen High SchoolCHAPEL HILL – East Bladen’s volleyball team received a berth in the NCHSAA Class 2A Volleyball Playoffs Thursday when the brackets were released. Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Eagles are the No. 30 seed and will travel to Deep Run Saturday at 2 p.m. to battle South Lenoir, the No. 3 seed.

The Lady Eagles finished in 4th place in the Southeastern Athletic Conference with a 5-7 league record and 7-13 overall mark. South Lenoir, the East Central champions, own an 18-1 record losing only a non-conference game to Ayden-Grifton.

JV Football: Midway 50, East Bladen 28

East Bladen High SchoolDUNN – Midway defeated East Bladen 50-28 Thursday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference junior varsity football action.

Malikah Moore ran for a pair of Eagle touchdowns and also scored a 2-point conversion. Kewone Maynor caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aidan Hargrove and also ran for a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. READ MORE

Middle School Volleyball: Clarkton School of Discovery Sweeps Pair at Tabor City

Clarkton School of DiscoveryTABOR CITY – Clarkton School of Discovery swept a pair of volleyball matches Thursday defeating Williams Township and Tabor City by identical 2-0 scores. Williams Township outlasted Tabor City 2-1 in Thursday’s other match.

Coach Elizabeth Priest’s Lady Blue Devils raised their record to 3-1. Clarkton will travel to Bladenboro Monday for matches against Bladenboro and Nakina.

Middle School Volleyball: Elizabethtown Wins Twice; Tar Heel Splits Pair

ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown swept a pair of Waccamaw Middle School Conference volleyball matches Thursday over Tar Heel and West Columbus.

The Lady Eagles defeated Tar Heel 2-0 in the opening match of the day by set scores of 25-21 and 25-20. In their 2nd match the Lady Cougars swept West Columbus 2-0 by set scores of 25-2 and 25-18. READ MORE

East Bladen Boys & Girls Soccer Teams Win Ethics & Sportsmanship Awards

East Bladen High SchoolKANSAS CITY, Mo. – East Bladen’s boys and girls soccer teams were both awarded the United Soccer Coaches High School Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.

The award recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees during the 2020-21 fall, winter and spring seasons. READ MORE

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – East Bladen’s boys and girls’ soccer teams were named recipients of the United Soccer Coaches Team Pinnacle Award for the 2020-21 academic year.

Boys’ Soccer: Midway 4, West Bladen 1

BLADENBORO – Midway built a 2-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference boys’ soccer victory Wednesday night over West Bladen.

Sophomore Javier De Los Santos fired in a 2nd half goal for the Knights. It was the final home game for the Knights who close out their season Monday at Clinton. West Bladen is 0-9 in league play and 5-9 overall.

Middle School Football: Bladenboro 24, Clarkton School of Discovery 24

CLARKTON – Bladenboro and Clarkton School of Discovery battled to a 24-24 tie Tuesday night in Waccamaw Middle School Conference football action.

The Bulldogs scored on their 1st 2 drives of the game. Justin Spaulding bolted 10 yards to cap the opening drive, and quarterback Hunter Hester tossed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Elijah McCollum that pushed the Bladenboro lead to 12-0. READ MORE

West Bladen Receives Girls’ Tennis Dual Team Bid

West Bladen High School LogoWest Bladen received the No. 14 seed in the Girls’ Tennis Dual Team Class 2A state playoffs. Coach Billy Bryant’s Lady Knights (9-4) were the runners-up in the Southeastern Athletic Conference.

The Lady Knights will travel to 3rd-seeded Greene Central (18-1) Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match. Other SAC-7 teams in the playoffs include SAC-7 champion Clinton (20-0), the No. 1 seed in the East. Fairmont (7-4) is the No. 15 seed and will travel to 2nd seeded South Columbus.

Volleyball: East Bladen 3, Red Springs 0

East Bladen High SchoolRED SPRINGS – East Bladen swept Red Springs 3-0 Monday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference volleyball action. Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Eagles improved to 5-6 in conference play and 7-12 overall.

East Bladen also won the jayvee game 2-1. The Lady Eagles will close out their season at home Tuesday against Clinton.

Boys’ Soccer: St. Pauls 4, West Bladen 1

West Bladen High School LogoST PAULS – St. Pauls scored 3 goals in overtime to defeat West Bladen 4-1 Monday night Southeastern Athletic Conference boys’ soccer action.

The teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation play. Sophomore Javier De Los Santos scored the only Knight goal. “Oswaldo Gonzalez had some huge saves for us (in goal),” said West Coach Kristen Parker. The Knights, now 0-8 in league play and 5-8 overall, will host Midway Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer: Red Springs 3, East Bladen 0

East Bladen High SchoolRED SPRINGS – Red Springs defeated East Bladen 3-0 Monday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference boys’ soccer action.

The Eagles, now 3-4 in league play and 8-6 overall, will entertain St. Pauls Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Middle School Volleyball: Clarkton School of Discovery Splits 2 Matches

Clarkton School of DiscoveryCLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery dropped their 1st Waccamaw Middle School Conference 2-0 to Nakina Monday, then bounced back to defeat Tabor City 2-0.

“The girls did so good,” said Clarkton Coach Elizabeth Priest. The Lady Blue Devils will travel to Tabor City Thursday to play Williams Township and Tabor City.

Middle School Volleyball: Tar Heel Splits 2 Matches

TAR HEEL – Tar Heel’s Lady Panthers dropped their 1st volleyball match of the season 2-0 to West Columbus Monday, but then battled back to outlast East Columbus 2-1 in their 2nd match.

West Columbus swept both sets 25-14 and 25-2 in the opening match, but Tar Heel rebounded to win the 1st set against East Columbus 25-9. READ MORE

Third Annual Kevin Conner Memorial Run Results

On Saturday, the third annual Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Run took place in Whiteville in memory of fallen Trooper Kevin Conner, who tragically lost his life during a traffic stop on October 17th, 2018. Each year, members of the community come together for the memorial run to honor his life and his dedication to serving and protecting. This year, approximately 400 runners participated. READ MORE.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – Former West Bladen star Brandon Council and his Auburn Tigers rallied for a 38-23 Southeastern Conference football victory at Arkansas Saturday.

Bladen County Parks and Recreation’s Youth and Adult Co-Ed Volleyball registration is underway and will continue through October 29th.

Naming Bladenboro Gym for Willis Nance Ceremony October 30th

A dedication ceremony to name the Bladenboro High School Gym after Coach Willis Nance, Jr. will be held on Saturday, October 30th at 9 a.m. at the gym. The public is invited.

Nance’s Bladenboro teams won Class 1A State Basketball Championships in 1990 and 1994. The 1990 team featured championship game Most Valuable Player and former Wake Forest star Trelonnie Owens. READ MORE

Jay Raynor Named East Head Coach for 2022 All-Star Game

GREENSBORO – East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor has been named as head coach for the East boys’ soccer team for the 2022 East-West All-Star game that is sponsored by the North Carolina Coaches Association. The game is scheduled for July 12th.
