East Bladen’s Softball team will celebrate Senior Night Tuesday, April 20 before their home game against St. Pauls.
Conner Brisson Scores Twice During UNCP Win Streak
PEMBROKE- Former West Bladen star Conner Brisson scored 2 runs and drove in one as UNC-Pembroke swept doubleheaders this week from Flagler and Francis Marion.
In Monday’s 10-1 win over Flagler, Brisson’s grounder plated Lauren Hilbourn to boost the Lady Brave lead to 5-1 in the 3rd inning. READ MORE
Trevor Lesane Has 3 Hits in Erskine Weekend Series
DUE WEST, SC – Former West Bladen star Trevor Lesane batted 3-for-9 with an RBI and 2 runs scored in Erskine’s weekend series with No. 4 Mount Olive. However the Trojans won 3 of 4 games against the Flying Fleet.
In the series opener Friday, Lesane belted a single to centerfield in the 4th inning but was stranded on base. The Tar Heel native knocked in teammate Cody Forster with a single to left in the 5th inning then scored on Tariq Bacon’s home run that capped the 6-run inning as Erskine posted a 9-0 victory. East Bladen’s Boys Tennis team will celebrate Senior Night Monday, April 19 at the conclusion of their last match. St. Pauls will be the opponent.

Dixie Youth Baseball is Back!
ELIZABETHTOWN- After being shutdown for the 2020 season by the aggravating coronavirus, local Dixie Youth Baseball returns Saturday with Opening Day at Leinwand Park.
Individual pictures will be taken prior to the games and first-pitch is scheduled for games on Fields #1 and #3 at 12 noon. Play will continue with more games slated for 2 p.m.
Girls Soccer: Whiteville 4, West Bladen 1
BLADENBORO – Whiteville defeated West Bladen 4-1 Friday night in non-conference girls’ soccer action. Freshman Eliana Padilla scored the West Bladen goal.
The Lady Knights are now 1-1 in league play and 2-4-1 overall, and will host St. Pauls Monday at 5:30.
Chase Knight & Isaac Mendoza Qualify for Golf Regionals
WHITE LAKE- East Bladen’s Chase Knight and West Bladen’s Isaac Mendoza qualified for the Class 2A MidEast Regional with their performance Wednesday in the Three Rivers Golf Championship at Vineyard Golf. READ MORE.
Thompson Plays In Wichita Falls Championship
Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson shot 78-80-76=234 to tie for 79th place in the Wichita Fall Lady’s Championship played this week in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Thompson’s next tournament is The Hot Springs Championship to be played April 28-30 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. READ MORE

Lily Lin Awarded Willie Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship
East Bladen senior Lily Lin has been selected as a regional recipient of the 2021 Willie Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship.
In accordance with this award, Lin will receive $750 in financial assistance in furthering her college or university education. READ MORE
Softball: East Bladen 9, Fairmont 6
FAIRMONT – East Bladen survived a furious Fairmont rally in the 7th inning and defeated the Lady Tornadoes 9-6 in Three Rivers Conference softball action Thursday night.
Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles improved to 4-1 in league play and 5-5 overall. East Bladen will host St. Pauls Tuesday at 6 p.m. READ MORE

WHITEVILLE – Junior Kadance Hammonds pitched a 6-hitter and sophomore Kloe Sellers slugged a home run to lead Whiteville to a 12-2 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over West Bladen Thursday night.
Junior Emma Hooks cracked a single to leftfield and raced home when junior Tessa Nicholson lined a triple to right-centerfield in the Lady Wolfpack 1st inning. Nicholson scored on Sellers’ fielder’s choice for a 2-0 lead. READ MORE
Girls Soccer: South Columbus 3, West Bladen 2
TABOR CITY – South Columbus scored a pair of 2nd half goals and edged West Bladen 3-2 Thursday in Three Rivers Conference girls’ soccer action.
Freshman Eliana Padilla fired in an unassisted goal for the Lady Knights who were tied 1-1 at halftime. Sophomore Whitney McLean knocked in the other West goal off of an assist from sophomore Kaden Thurman. READ MORE
James Madison University’s Women’s Golf Coach Is Former White Lake Resident
Tommy Baker, son of Dr. Warren Baker, formerly of White Lake, is the head coach of the James Madison University Women’s Golf Team. Baker grew up playing golf at what is now Vineyard Golf at White Lake.
JMU women’s golf took home not only the individual championship, but also the team championship in dramatic fashion at the three-day, par-72 CAA Championship in Greensboro. READ MORE

Maya McDonald Wins NCHSAA Performance of the Week
CHAPEL HILL – East Bladen’s Maya McDonald has been named the winner of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Performance of the Week award. She is the 2nd East Bladen soccer athlete to win the award this season. Senior Garrett Melvin won the award earlier this year.
McDonald poured in 15 goals and dished out 3 assists in 3 Lady Eagle victories. READ MORE

CERRO GORDO – Sophomore Karli Priest pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 10 batters to lead East Bladen to an 18-0 non-conference victory over West Columbus in the opening game of a softball double-header Tuesday.
Sophomore Laura Davisson ignited a 3-run, 1st inning rally by the Lady Eagles with a single to leftfield. Sophomore Emma Turbeville and junior Mariah Smith reached base on errors as Davisson and Turbeville scored. READ MORE

CERRO GORDO – East Bladen pounded out 22 hits and sophomore Laura Davisson pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 6 batters as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 26-2 Three Rivers Conference victory over West Columbus Tuesday night in the 2nd game of a softball doubleheader.
Senior Kayleigh Raynor batted a perfect 5-for-5 with a triple, a double, 4 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Sophomore Karli Priest finished 5-for-6 at the plate with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs. READ MORE

LUMBERTON – Freshman Halona Sampson pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 7 batters to lead Lumberton to a 10-0 non-conference softball victory over West Bladen Tuesday night.

TABOR CITY – Junior Maya McDonald and senior Katie Evans led unbeaten East Bladen to a 3-0 Three Rivers Conference victory over South Columbus Tuesday.
McDonald knocked in the Lady Eagles initial goal off of a feed from Evans in the 21st minute. Four minutes later Evans blasted in a free kick from 35 yards out for a 2-0 East lead. READ MORE

LUMBERTON – Sophomore Kayleigh Martin pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 batters to lead Lumberton to a 14-0 non-conference jayvee softball victory over West Bladen Tuesday.

ELIZABETHTOWN – Jenna Brice pitched a no-hitter, and Emereau Charter exploded for 14 runs in the 1st inning and rolled to a 21-2 softball victory Monday over Mintz Christian Academy.

Couch Potato: Amazing streak by East Bladen football team comes to an end

For the first time this century East Bladen will not participate in the state high school football playoffs. It was an amazing run of success for the Cougars/Eagles under the leadership of Lenon Fisher and Robby Priest.
The then-Cougars’ playoff run started in 2000 with a 6-4 record and a No. 15 seed in Class 2-A East. East Bladen won at unbeaten Roanoke Rapids (9-0-1) 30-29. READ MORE

Garrett Melvin Named Three Rivers Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year
East Bladen senior Garrett Melvin has been named the 2020/2021 Three Rivers Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. Just last month Melvin was selected to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association Class 2A Men’s Soccer All-State Team.

Six Bladen Players Named All-Conference Men’s Soccer
TABOR CITY – Four East Bladen Eagles – Garrett Melvin, Jay McKoy, Chase Starkloff and Jacob Priest – and two West Bladen Knights – Jordan Underwood and Oswaldo Gonzalez – have been named to the Three Rivers Conference All-Conference Men’s Soccer Team.
Melvin, a senior striker, was named the Three Rivers Player of the Year and racked up 26 goals, 11 assists and 132 steals in just 11 games and recorded 6 ‘Hat Tricks’ of 3 goals in a single game. READ MORE

Realignment Plan for 2021-2025 Finalized
The NCHSAA’s Board of Directors finalized the realignment plan for the 2021-2025 sports seasons, and East Bladen and West Bladen will be in a slightly different and smaller conference than this year’s Three Rivers Conference.
The new conference that will initiate play in the fall of 2021 will retain current Three Rivers Conference members West Bladen, East Bladen, Fairmont, Red Springs and St. Pauls and welcome Sampson County schools Clinton and Midway. All 7 teams are Class 2A schools. READ MORE
