Boys Basketball: West Bladen 47, East Columbus 38

BLADENBORO – Senior Tyre Boykin poured in 25 points Tuesday night to lead West Bladen’s Knights to a 47-38 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over East Columbus.

West Bladen improved to 1-2 in league play and 3-2 overall. The Knights will host Clinton Friday night in a non-conference game. READ MORE

Girls Basketball: West Bladen 50, East Columbus 25

BLADENBORO – Seniors Kasee Singletary and Lexie Corrothers combined for 22 points Tuesday night and led West Bladen to a 50-25 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over East Columbus.

The Lady Knights remained unbeaten in TRC play with a 3-0 record and are 5-1 overall. West Bladen will host Clinton Friday night in a non-conference game. READ MORE

East Bladen High SchoolRED SPRINGS – An 18-0 East Bladen second-period blitz propelled the Lady Eagles to a 55-9 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over Red Springs Tuesday night.

West Bladen High School LogoBLADENBORO – Azillyah McDonald and Anniya Phillips threw in fourth quarter baskets Tuesday as West Bladen’s Lady Knights edged East Columbus 18-17 in Three Rivers Conference jayvee girls basketball action.

Gabe Barber Named All-State; 6 Eagles Are All-Region

East Bladen senior Gabe Barber has been named to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association Class 2A All-State team. Barber and 5 of his Eagle teammates – Jake Evans, Will Hester, Jay McKoy, Garrett Melvin and Freddy Wooten – have been named to the NCSCA Class 2A All-Region 6 team.

Barber (pictured), the Three Rivers Conference Player of the Year, fired in 24 goals, dished out 22 assists and had 423 steals. He is the 3rd East Bladen player to be named All-State Soccer. READ MORE



Sayaun Dent Posts 2 Double-Doubles for No. 1 Sandhills

PINEHURST – West Bladen grad Sayaun Dent posted a pair of double-doubles this week as his No. 1 ranked Sandhills Community College Flyers improved to 11-0 on the season.

Dent is averaging 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists per game while playing 23.5 minutes per game for the Flyers who are ranked No. 1 in the latest NJCAA poll. READ MORE

Registration for West Bladen’s Lil Knights Basketball League is underway. The league will play on 6 Saturday mornings beginning on January 11, 2020.

ELIZABETHTOWN – Unbeaten East Bladen raced to a 25-3 first quarter lead en route to a 55-19 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over South Columbus on Friday night.

NCHSAA board approves next step in realignment process

CHAPEL HILL – The N.C. High School Athletic Association Board of Directors concluded its winter meeting Thursday with several policy changes.

Of note, the board approved a request for the drafting of a ballot for a membership vote on an amendment to Bylaw IV of the Articles and Bylaws that governs classification. READ MORE


Tyre Boykin Signs to Play Basketball at UMKC

BLADENBORO – West Bladen senior Tyre Boykin announced Wednesday that he has signed to play basketball next season at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

Two other schools – UNC Pembroke and Catawba – had made offers to Boykin .Boykin has averaged 23 points per game in the first three Knight games this season. READ MORE

Larrell Murchison Named All-Atlantic Coast Conference

East Bladen grad and North Carolina State defensive tackle Larrell Murchison (pictured on left) has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference football second team.

Murchison, a 6-3, 291 pounder, led the Wolfpack defense with 7 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. He finished with 48 total tackles. READ MORE


UNC Asheville to Retire Sheila Ford Duncan’s Jersey

UNC Asheville athletics announced last week it will retire jersey No. 54 in honor of former Clarkton High School standout Sheila Ford Duncan during the Bulldogs homecoming basketball doubleheader on February 22.

She played for coach Raymond Marlowe at Clarkton High School in the late ’70s and her father is former Clarkton High basketball coach Harold Ford. READ MORE
