Desmond Bryant Football Camp Set For Aug. 24
East Bladen High School graduate and former NFL player Desmond Bryant will host his annual football camp on Saturday, Aug. 24 at East Bladen. The 8th annual Back-to-School camp is free and open to ages 6 to 18.
Bryant, who played collegiately at Harvard after graduating from East Bladen in 2004, played seven years in the NFL. READ MORE
Clarkton School of Discovery Football Practice Begins August 26
Coach Robert Mazur has announced that Clarkton School of Discovery football practice will begin on Monday, August 26 at 3:15 p.m.
Practice will be held Monday through Friday from 3:15 until 5:15 each day. READ MORE
Vineyard Golf Club Championship Set Sept. 14-15
Vineyard Golf at White Lake will host its club championship Sept. 14-15, according to Junior Nance.

August 15 Thundering Herd At Vineyard Golf
Three teams of five players each teed it up Thursday afternoon in The Thundering Herd at Vineyard Golf at White Lake. When the dust cleared all three teams had shot seven-under par for the nine hole event. A scorecard playoff was held starting on hole number six.

Bladenboro Middle Football & Girls Soccer Practices Begin August 19
Athletic Director Steve Thurman has announced that Bladenboro Middle School will begin football and girls soccer practice on August 19. Girls soccer practice will be from 4 until 6 p.m. on the 19th, while football will practice from 6:30 until 8 p.m. the same day. Coach Thurman reminds all players that will need a current physical to participate.
Recreation Football & Cheerleading Registration Through Sept. 6
Registration for Bladen County Recreation’s Cheerleading, Flag Football and Tackle Football programs is underway through Sept. 6.
Bladen Recreation Soccer Registration Open Until August 30
Bladen County Parks and Recreation Soccer Registration is underway and will continue through Friday, August 30.

Football Scrimmage: West Bladen at Wilmington Ashley
West Bladen’s Knights showed offensive improvement Tuesday night in their scrimmage at Wilmington Ashley, but according to Coach Jon Sherman there is still work to be done on defense.
“Defensively we aren’t quite there yet,” said Coach Sherman. “We have some work to do. We made some mistakes, but we had great effort. The kids played hard.” READ MORE
Battle of the Carolinas Football: East Bladen 8, Purnell Swett 0
LUMBERTON — LUMBERTON – Senior Zaquis Leach galloped 64 yards for a second half touchdown as East Bladen defeated Purnell Swett 8-0 Monday night in the Battle of the Carolinas football scrimmage.
Leach carried 3 times for 96 yards to lead the Eagle runners. Rasean McKoy gained 72 yards on 7 rushes, senior Kasey Price added 25 yards on 7 attempts, and Lawson Hester netted 24 yards on 5 carries. READ MORE

TAMPA, Fla. – East Bladen grad Sincere Smith is currently batting .315 for the Yankees West team in the Gulf Coast League.
Smith has played in 21 games and has cracked 17 hits, scored 13 runs and has 3 doubles, a triple, a home run and 7 runs batted in. The Clarkton native has a .387 on-base percentage and a .463 slugging percentage. READ MORE

Kayla Thompson of Clarkton is at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, attempting to qualify for either the LPGA or the Symetra Golf Tour.

Knights Open Scrimmage Season at Douglas Byrd
FAYETTEVILLE – West Bladen’s Knights saw their first physical contact against an opponent in the 2019 preseason Saturday as the Knights battled Douglas Byrd’s Eagles.

Matt Hill Named South Columbus Basketball Coach
West Bladen grad Matt Hill has been named the new head boys basketball coach at South Columbus, effectively completing a swap of roles between Hill and former South Columbus coach Bryant Edwards.
Hill resigned as head basketball coach at Lumberton in March. In his three years at the helm of the Pirate hoop program, Hill led Lumberton to a 42-37 record. READ MORE
Larrell Murchison Named to Outland Trophy Watchlist
DALLAS, Texas – East Bladen grad and current North Carolina State standout Larrell Murchison has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2019 Outland Trophy that is given annually to the nation’s top interior lineman.
Murchison started every game for the Wolfpack in 2018 and made 34 tackles, 4 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 2 pass break-ups and one interception. READ MORE

The Fall Triathlon White Lake schedule has been announced. Two triathlons will be held on Sept. 7 and one on Sept. 8.
