East Bladen & West Bladen Battle Monday Night

BasketballSecond place in the Three Rivers Conference girls basketball standings will be on the line Monday night when East Bladen travels to West Bladen for the county rivals first meeting of the season.

Both teams own 9-1 league records. Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles are 15-3 overall. Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights are 12-3 overall. READ MORE



Lacey Suggs Scores 17 in UNCW Overtime Loss

CHARLESTON, SC – White Lake native Lacey Suggs fired in 17 points for UNC Wilmington Sunday, but a late run in overtime lifted the College of Charleston to a 67-63 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Lady Seahawks.

The 5-10 senior guard is second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and leads the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg). READ MORE

PINEHURST – West Bladen grad Sayaun Dent posted a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday night to lead nationally ranked Sandhills Community College to a 122-90 victory over Central Carolina Community College.

The Flyers are 20-2 and tied for second in the latest NJCAA Division III poll with Richlands, Texas. READ MORE

Wildlife Commission Seeks Input on Sunday Hunting on Game Lands

NC Wildlife Resources CommissionRALEIGH — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking input from the public, agency constituents, and stakeholders to help identify issues and options related to Sunday hunting on game lands. Bladen Community College will host one of six forums across the state to discuss the topic. The forum is scheduled Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the college’s auditorium. READ MORE

East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – Red Springs defeated East Bladen 47-27 Friday night in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball action. The Red Devils led 23-13 at halftime.

East Bladen, now 2-13, will travel to West Bladen Monday night.

Patience Ward Signs with Cape Fear Community College Basketball

ELIABETHTOWN – With her family, coaches and teammates in attendance Wednesday, East Bladen senior Patience Ward signed a letter-of-intent to continue her basketball career next season at Cape Fear Community College.

Ward is currently averaging a team-high 21 points per game and set a school single-game scoring record with 45 points earlier this season in a win over Jacksonville Northside. READ MORE

Spring Triathlons Scheduled For White Lake

The 2020 White Lake Spring Triathlons have been scheduled for the weekend of April 25-26. The headquarters for the events will be the White Lake FFA Camp located on NC 53 at the lake.

NCHSAA Board to require viewing of concussion video

CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors passed regulations mandating that schools require parents and students to view a concussion education video known as “CrashCourse” prior to each season. The video was developed by TeachAids, a 501(c)(3) non-profit leader in global education innovation, and researchers at Stanford University.

The video features former NCHSAA star Bryce Love, a standout running back from Wake Forest High School and Stanford University. READ MORE
