NC DYB Majors State Tournament: Elizabethtown 18, Dunn 3

LELAND- Elizabethtown pounded out 19 hits and rolled to an 18-3 victory over Dunn Wednesday in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament.

With the victory Elizabethtown advances to the ‘Final Four’ and will play unbeaten South Park Thursday at 2 p.m. An Elizabethtown victory Thursday would leave 3 teams in the tournament and all 3 would have one loss. READ MORE

NC Dixie Debs State Softball Tournament: South Columbus 6, Lumberton 5

CARTHAGE – South Columbus slugged 2 home runs and captured the North Carolina Dixie Debs State Softball Tournament Tuesday night with a 6-5 victory over Lumberton.

A 3-run first-inning homer staked the winners to an early 3-0 lead. South Columbus built their lead to 6-3 in the fifth then survived a 2-run last-inning rally by Lumberton. READ MORE

Elizabethtown Girls Place Third In Fishing Tournament

Campbell McLaurin (8-years-old) and Daisy Grissop (4-years-old) placed 3rd in the “Catfish for Kids Tournament” sponsored by the Bottom Feeders Fishing Club on Shearon Harris Lake.

The girls are members of the Team Reaper Fishing team. Campbell is the daughter of Daniel and Trista McLaurin and Daisy is the daughter of Jonathan Grissop, all of Elizabethtown.

Sayaun Dent Scores 7 Points as East Wins All-Star Game

GREENSBORO – Sayaun Dent connected on all 3 of his shots from the field and scored 7 points as his East team rallied in the second half to defeat the West 117-108 in the 69th Annual East-West High School All-Star Game.

Dent drained a 3-point shot and added another basket in the first half to help keep the East within 60-53 at intermission. The East outscored the West 64-48 in the second half to claim the victory. READ MORE

Dixie Youth BaseballLELAND – An 8-run third-inning staked South Park to a 13-1 lead en route to a 13-8 victory over Elizabethtown Monday in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament.

South Park scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning on Sunday night, before Garrison Tatum blasted a home run to lead off the Elizabethtown first inning. Rain halted the game at that point, and it was resumed on Monday. READ MORE

NC Dixie Debs State Softball Tournament: Lumberton 9, West Stanly 8

CARTHAGE – Lumberton pushed across the winning run in the eighth inning to defeat West Stanly 9-8 Monday in the North Carolina Dixie Debs State Tournament.

With the victory Lumberton advances to Tuesday’s 4 p.m. championship game against South Columbus. Lumberton needs a win to force a second and final championship game that would be played Wednesday at 4 p.m. READ MORE

SWAC 12U State Softball Tournament: Onslow County 7, Bladen County 6

WILLIAMSTON – Onslow County rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to eliminate Bladen County 7-6 Sunday in the State-Wide Activities 12U State Softball Tournament.

Bladen County carried a 6-3 lead into the home sixth but 4 hits produced 4 runs and sent Onslow to the championship game against Williamston. READ MORE

Elizabethtown’s State Dixie Youth Majors Game Stopped By Rain

LELAND – Elizabethtown’s game against South Park Sunday night in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament was stopped by rain after one inning and will be continued Monday afternoon at 1:30 with South Park leading 3-1.

NC Dixie Debs State Tournament: Lumberton 11, Brunswick North 9

CARTHAGE – Madison Collins walloped a 2-run homer and pitched 3 innings of relief as Lumberton defeated Brunswick North 11-9 Sunday in an elimination game in the North Carolina Dixie Debs State Tournament.

Shortstop Conner Brisson was hit by a pitch and scored a run in the second inning then knocked in a run with a single and later scored in the fourth. READ MORE

Dixie Youth BaseballLELAND – Ryan Johnson slugged a pair of 3-run homers to lead Elizabethtown to an 11-9 victory over East Duplin Saturday in the opening round of the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament.

WILLIAMSTON – Williamston capitalized on 8 errors and defeated Bladen County 12-8 Saturday in the State-Wide Activities Committee (SWAC) 12U Softball State Tournament.

Rylee Chadwick led off the game with a single and scored the first Bladen run as Savannah Turbeville reached base on an error. READ MORE

WILLIAMSTON – The Bladen County All-Stars rolled to a 23-5 victory over Holly Springs Saturday in the State-Wide Activities Committee (SWAC) 12U Softball State Tournament.

Bladen County took charge early with an 8-run first inning. Rylee Chadwick ripped a single, and Savannah Turbeville walked. Karli Priest drove in Chadwick with a single, and Alexus Mitchell and AnnaGrey Heustess beat out bunt singles that scored Savannah Turbeville and Priest. READ MORE

Bladen County 12U All-Stars Open SWAC State Softball Tournament Play

The Bladen County 12U All-Stars begin play in the State-Wide Activities Committee (SWAC) State Softball Tournament Saturday at 10:45 a.m.against Holly Springs in Williamston.

Bladen County won the SWAC Eastern Sectional last weekend with an 8-1 victory over Onslow County. Bladen County is the No. 1 seed from the East, while Holly Springs is the No. 2 seed from the West Sectional. READ MORE

GolfJuly has proven to be a very busy month at Vineyard Golf. A lot of tossups being played and the Thursday Thundering Herd has proven again to be a popular Thursday afternoon event.

Coach Travis Pait and his West Bladen Knights held their Lil Knights Basketball Camp this week.

In the College Division, Mayee Kinlaw won the Camper of the Week Award. Connor Chavis won three awards – the Wanson Speed Dribble Champion, Free Throw Champion and the Hot Shot Champion. Trey George captured the One-on-One championship, and Luke Bryant was the Knockout Champion. READ MORE
