FAYETTEVILLE – Sophmore Pierce Melvin won his first varsity start, and junior Sincere Smith and senior Kyle Tatum connected for 3 hits each to lead East Bladen to an 8-1 victory over Freedom Christian in the J. Hoyt Warren/Wayne Edwards Easter Baseball Tournament.
Melvin pitched 6 innings and allowed one unearned run on 4 hits and a walk while striking out five. Smith worked a scoreless seventh giving up 2 walks and a hit before striking out the final batter. READ MORE
East Bladen Wins Sportmanship Award In Warren/Edwards Tourney
FAYETTEVILLE – East Bladen’s Eagles received the Sportsmanship Award Tuesday for the J. Hoyt Warren/Wayne Edwards Easter Baseball Tournament at Douglas Byrd High School.
Tournament Director Melissa Barbour, the widow of long-time Douglas Byrd coach Brad Barbour, presented Coach Priest and the Eagles with the award after their win over Freedom. READ MORE
Lexi Dawson Belts 2 Hits in Key St Andrews Win
LAURINBURG – East Bladen grad Lexi Dawson batted 2-4 Saturday as St Andrews clinched a spot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Tournament with a 5-4 victory over Reinhardt, GA.
Dawson knocked in a run in the Lady Knights 2-run fifth-inning as the winners rallied from a 4-0 deficit. St. Andrews then scored 3 runs in the sixth inning to pull out the victory. READ MORE

FAYETTEVILLE – Kyshawn McLean and senior Devin Bagley combined to pitch a 5-hitter as Cape Fear held off East Bladen 4-2 Monday night in the semi-finals of the J. Hoyt Warren/Wayne Edwards Easter Baseball Tournament at Douglas Byrd High.
McLean allowed only 2 hits and one run in 5.2 innings to pick up the win. The junior righthander struck out 7 but walked six. Bagley worked the final 1.1 innings and gave up a run on 3 hits. READ MORE
Robeson County Baseball Slugfest: South Robeson 11, West Bladen 8
FAIRMONT – South Robeson capitalized on four West Bladen misplays to score 8 runs – 6 unearned – in the fifth inning en route to an 11-8 victory over the Knights Monday in the Robeson County Baseball Slugfest.
Due to illnesses that sidelined a couple of starters Coach Kim Cain was forced to shuffle his line-up and had four players who were not at their regular positions in Monday’s game. READ MORE

East Bladen’s Boys & West Bladen’s Girls Second in Four County Meet
DUNN – East Bladen’s Boys and West Bladen’s Girls both finished second Tuesday in a six-team Four County Conference track meet.
East Bladen’s boys racked up 101 points to place second behind Wallace-Rose Hill’s 139 points. Midway finished third with 79 points edging West Bladen’s 76 points.
West Bladen’s girls totaled 92 points to finish second behind Midway’s 145 points in the girls meet. Wallace-Rose Hill was third with 74 points. Clinton was fourth with 57 points, and East Bladen took fifth place with 49 points. READ MORE
Clint Allen Bats 3-8 In Coker Weekend Sweep
HARTSVILLE, SC – West Bladen grad Clint Allen batted 3-8 with a double in Coker’s weekend sweep of South Atlantic Conference foe Brevard.
In Friday night’s series opener, Allen batted 3-3 with a double and 2 runs scored as the Cobras blanked Brevard 5-0. The Bladenboro native smashed a double to left-centerfield leading off the third inning and later scored to pad the Coker lead to 2-0. READ MORE

Robeson County Slugfest: Fairmont 5, West Bladen 3
FAIRMONT- Fairmont rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat West Bladen 5-3 Saturday night in the opening round of the Robeson County Baseball Slugfest.
The Tornadoes pushed across single runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game, then Seth Throndyke doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Knights scored all 3 of their runs in the third inning. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN –Pitcher Kayleigh Raynor and catcher Abigail Madden belted 3 hits each to lead Elizabethtown to a 12-0 Bladen Five Middle School Conference softball victory over Tar Heel Thursday.

CLARKTON – Ayden Piland hammered a triple that keyed a 3-run winning rally and propelled Clarkton School of Discovery to a 9-6 Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball victory over Bladenboro.
With the score knotted 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Weston Hodge walked and raced home with the go-ahead run on Piland’s triple. Jacob Priest knocked in Piland with a single. Priest dashed home on an error to pad the lead to 9-6. READ MORE

Two teams split the Friday, April 14 Tossup at Vineyard Golf. The team of Jimmy Davis, David Cross, Norgie Hester and Ed Horne won the front side with even par while the team of Ann Tessenear, Stacy Owen, Henry Warwick, Jeff Rogerson and David Settlemyer took the back side with 2-under par.

ST. PAULS – East Bladen reeled off ten unanswered runs to build a 14-7 lead then held off a last-ditch St. Pauls rally to claim a 14-12 non-conference softball victory Thursday night.
The Lady Eagles grabbed the early lead with 3 runs in the second inning. Freshman Izzy Smith was hit by a pitch, and freshman Abby Cross reached base on an error. Sophmore Olivia Hollingsworth was hit by a pitch, and walks to sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson, freshman Johanna Parker and junior Faith Johnson forced in the 3 runs. READ MORE

ROSE HILL – Union’s Spartans rallied for 5 runs in their final two at-bats to defeat West Bladen 7-3 Wednesday night in Four County Conference baseball action.

Three triathlons are scheduled for White Lake on April 22 and 23. The White Lake Spring Half 2017 will take place at 7 a.m. on April 22 with 212 athletes. The White Lake International 2017 will be held that same day at 8 a.m. with 211 participants. READ MORE

Dixie Boys Baseball Registration Underway
The Bladen County Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting Dixie Boys Baseball registration! The cost is $30 per player. Registration will continue through May 5th. Dixie Boys Baseball is for boys ages 13 & 14 (age as of May 1st, 2017).

The 28th Annual Bladen We Care Byron H. Gooden Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, April 27 at Vineyard Golf at White Lake located between Elizabethtown and White Lake. Bladen We Care is a community based, not for profit foundation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to raising and overseeing distribution of funds which will help provide health care for patients in need in Bladen County. Three Triathlons Scheduled For White Lake In April
The weekend of April 22-23 will find three triathlons scheduled for White Lake.

Four County EMC offers summer basketball camp scholarships
Four County EMC is giving two local middle school students an opportunity to attend college basketball camps this summer with Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships.
Four County EMC will select one boy to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp on June 17-21 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and one local girls for the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp on June 11-14 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The scholarships cover all expenses at the overnight camps, which provide a glimpse into life on a college campus. READ MORE
