New Coaches Approved at West Bladen

ELIZABETHTOWN – At their July board meeting, the Bladen County Board of Education approved a number of coaching changes and additions with some big-name Bladen natives coming back home to help out at West Bladen.
Joining new coach Preston Worley’s football staff as assistant coaches at West Bladen will be Bladenboro natives Alvin Thompson and Jerry Singletary. READ MORE
SFGA Plays Tournament At Pinecrest Country Club
The Southeastern Fellowship Golf Association played a two-net score format tournament Tuesday with 38 players participating at Pinecrest Country Club in Lumberton.

Participation Numbers Rise in NCHSAA Sports

CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association saw a 4.73 percent increase in overall participation during the 2023-2024 school from the previous year. Across all sports, 208,722 student athletes participated in NCHSAA sanctioned sports in 2023-2024, up from 198,025 in 2022-2023. This is based on information reported to the NCHSAA by its member schools. READ MORE

Thompson Ties For 12th in Kathy Whitworth Championship
Bladen County professional golfer Kayla Thompson had a good payday in Trophy City, Texas, tying for 12th place and earning $1,360 in the Kathy Whitworth Championship.
Thompson put together a stellar 18 holes during Saturday’s final round on the Whitworth Course at Trophy Club Country Club with 16 pars and two birdies to score 2-under 70. READ MORE

Kayla Thompson Moves Up Eleven Places in Whitworth Tournament
Playing Friday in the third round of the Kathy Whitworth Championship in Trophy City, Texas, Kayla Thompson shot a two-under 70 to move into a tie for 16th place, an 11-position jump up the leaderboard. She’s at 1-under 215.

Emereau Bladen Boys Soccer Workouts Begin Wednesday
Emereau Bladen will begin boys soccer workouts Wednesday at 4 p. m. and the workouts will continue 3 times a week for 3 weeks.
Workouts will be held from 4-6 p.m. on July 24-26, July 30-Aug. 1 and Aug. 7-9.

Bladen County golfer Kayla Thompson made the cut in the Kathy Whitworth Championship. She shot 70-75=145 to tie for 27th place after two rounds in Trophy City, Texas.
The Annika Women’s All Pro Tour tournament is a 72 hole event with the third round Friday and final round Saturday. READ MORE

WINNABOW – Columbus County defeated Bladen County 12-5 Wednesday in an elimination game in the 2024 North Carolina Junior Dixie Boys State Tournament at Town Creek Park.

Kayla Thompson Shoots 70 In Round 1 Of Kathy Whitworth Championship
Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson, playing in the first round of the Kathy Whitworth Championship in Trophy City, Texas, shot 35-35=70 and is tied for 14th place.
Thompson had eight pars and one birdie on the front nine and four pars, three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine. READ MORE

GREENSBORO – East Bladen’s Jamie Delgado was a member of the East All-Stars who defeated the West 3-2 in Tuesday night’s North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Star game at Grimsley Stadium.

WINNABOW – Liam Edmonds pitched a 4-hit shutout and struck out 15 batters to lead Brunswick County to a 10-0 victory over Bladen County Tuesday that eliminated Bladen County from the 2024 North Carolina Dixie Boys State Tournament at Town Creek Park. READ MORE

WINNABOW – Cole Brisson and Ryne Priest combined on a no-hitter and Bladen County exploded for 14 runs in the 5th inning to close out a 20-1 victory over Lumberton Monday in the 2024 North Carolina Dixie Boys State Tournament at Town Creek Park.
Bladen County will play the loser of the Dallas/Brunswick County game at 9 a. m. Tuesday in an elimination game. READ MORE

WINNABOW – Lumberton defeated Bladen County 8-1 Monday in a winner’s bracket game in the 2024 North Carolina Junior Dixie Boys State Tournament at Town Creek Park.
Bladen County receives a bye Tuesday and will play the loser of Tuesday’s Lumberton/Columbus County game Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in an elimination game. READ MORE
