Bladen 10U Boys Edged in Extra Time in State Soccer Tourney

GASTONIA – Bladen County was edged 3-2 in extra time by Wilson Sunday in the semi-finals of the StateWide Activities Committee’s 10U Boys State Soccer Tournament.

With 20 seconds left in regulation play and the score tied 2-2, Bladen County thought they had scored the game-winning goal, but it was taken away on a penalty. READ MORE

Harrells Senior Sam Ellis To Play Baseball at Hampden-Sydney

Sam Ellis of Elizabethtown, a senior at Harrells Christian Academy, signed Wednesday to play baseball at Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia.

On the state and national circuit, Sam was named to the 15U National Championship All-Tournament Team in 2015 and the 17U team for pitchers in 2017. READ MORE

Bladen 10U Boys Top Seed In State Soccer Semi-finals

GASTONIA – Bladen County won both of their bracket games Saturday to advance as the bracket’s top seed into the semi-finals of the StateWide Activities Committee’s 10U Boys State Soccer Tournament.

Bladen County will play their semi-final game Sunday at 9 a.m. A win would send the Bladen team into Sunday’s championship game at 12:45 p.m. READ MORE

GASTONIA – Bladen County battled Fuquay Varina to a 2-2 tie Saturday to advance to the semi-finals of the StateWide Activities Committee 12U Girls State Soccer Tournament.

SoccerGASTONIA- The Bladen County All-Stars were narrowly eliminated from advancing to the medal round of the State-Wide Activities Committee 14U Boys State Soccer Tournament.

Former East Bladen soccer standout Israel Evans (pictured) had two shots on goal as Southern Wesleyan defeated Columbia International 2-1 in double overtime in the NCCAA South Region championship game Nov. 17. Evans has started 13 games for the Warriors. Hastin McGill, also an East Bladen graduate, is a member of the Columbus International squad. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN – Only the clock could stop senior Xavier Wooten and the East Bladen Eagles Friday night.

Wooten ran 27 times for 309 yards and 6 touchdowns, and the Eagles scored touchdowns on 10 of 12 offensive possessions en route to a 68-28 victory over Greene Central in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Football Play-offs. READ MORE

East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – The only thing that could slow down sophmore Patience Ward and East Bladen’s Lady Eagles Wednesday night were a pair of electrical outages.

Ward just missed a triple-double with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 8 steals as East Bladen raced to leads of 17-2 and 30-9 en route to a 54-15 season-opening non-conference victory over South Brunswick. READ MORE

The season final tournament of the SFSGA was held Tuesday at Land O’ Lakes Golf Course near Whiteville.
