Patty Evers in Women’s Leadership Spotlight

CHAPEL HILL- East Bladen Coach and Athletic Director Patty Evers has been recognized as this month’s Women’s Leadership Spotlight presented by Blue Cross of North Carolina in conjunction with the NCHSAA. The recognition is presented monthly during the school year.

Golf: West Bladen’s Daniel Gustafson Ties For 2nd

LUMBER BRIDGE – West Bladen’s Knights captured 2nd place in the team competition, and Knight senior Daniel Gustafson finished in a 4-way tie for 2nd place in the medalist competition at the Southeastern Athletic Conference golf match at Scothurst Golf Club Monday.

Gustafson carded an 80 to tie a trio of Midway golfers. READ MORE



Baseball: West Bladen 4, Clinton 2

BLADENBORO – Sophomore Hunter Hester, freshman Ashton Davis and junior Garrett Dunham combined on a 3-hitter Tuesday night as West Bladen opened Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball action with a 4-2 victory over Clinton.

Coach Wade Pait’s Knights improved to 4-5 overall and will travel to Clinton Wednesday night for a rematch with the Dark Horses. READ MORE

Middle School Baseball: West Columbus 16, Tar Heel 0

ELIZABETHTOWN – West Columbus defeated Tar Heel 16-0 Tuesday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action. The Warriors scored 6 runs in the 1st inning, and added 4 more in the 2nd and 6 in the 3rd.

Demarious Guions was hit by a pitch in the Tar Heel 2nd inning, and Jordan King walked. Dylan McLaurin and Levi Velasco-Garcia drew walks in the 3rd inning. Christian Rohrer, Velasco-Garcia and Richie Gonzales shared the pitching duties for Tar Heel.

ELIZABETHTOWN – West Columbus defeated Tar Heel 17-4 Tuesday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball action at County Park.

The Southeastern Fellowship Golf Association played a two-net score format tournament at Vineyard Golf at White Lake on Tuesday with 47 members participating.

LORIS, SC – Whiteville held off South Columbus Monday by 8 strokes (382-390) in the Waccamaw Conference golf match at Diamondback Golf Club. East Columbus placed 3rd with a 427 total.

East Bladen finished 4th with a 437 score ahead of West Columbus (441) and Heide Trask (482). READ MORE



Middle School Softball: Clarkton School of Discovery 18, Elizabethtown 14

CLARKTON – A 12-run 5th-inning Clarkton School of Discovery rally overcame a 13-6 Elizabethtown lead Monday and lifted the Lady Blue Devils to an 18-14 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory.

Coach Melissa Singletary’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 2-1 overall and are 1-1 in Waccamaw’s Division A. Elizabethtown, now 0-3 overall, and 0-1 in Division AA games. READ MORE

NeNe Ward, Laila Smith Named All-District Basketball

East Bladen’s Iveonna “NeNe” Ward and Laila Smith have been named to the NC Basketball Coaches Association All-District 2 Girls Basketball Team. Ward was a First Team All-District selection, while Smith was named to the Third Team.

Larrell Murchison Re-Signs With Los Angeles Rams

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – The Los Angeles Rams have officially re-signed defensive tackle Larrell Murchison to a 1-year deal. Murchison, a 26-year-old Elizabethtown native, had become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year on March 13.

In his first full season with the Rams last year, Murchison played 252 snaps and recorded 16 total tackles. READ MORE


Keira Lewis Named to All-SAC Basketball Team

DUNN – West Bladen senior Kiera Lewis has been named to the All-Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ basketball team. Lewis led the Lady Knights averaging 8.6 points and 6 rebounds per game.

Lewis fired in a season-high 23 points in a win over West Columbus and just missed a double-double with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals in a narrow 38-36 loss at Clinton. READ MORE

Travis Pait Receives 2 Coach of the Year Awards

DUNN – West Bladen’s Travis Pait has received a pair of Coach of the Year awards. Pait has been named the 2023-24 NC Basketball Coaches Association District 2 Coach of the Year. He has also been named 2023-24 Co-Coach of the Year for the Southeastern Athletic Conference.

Pait’s Knights posted a 24-2 record and tied Fairmont for the Southeastern Athletic Conference’s regular-season championship. READ MORE


Track & Field: East Bladen Boys 3rd, Girls 4th

ROCKY POINT — East Bladen scored well in the sprints and relays Thursday to place 3rd in the boys meet and 4th in the girls meet at the 2nd Waccamaw Conference track & field meet of the season at Heide Trask. West Bladen Athletics Golf Tournament

The West Bladen Athletic Department will sponsor a 4-man Captain’s Choice golf tournament to be held at Land O’Lakes Golf Course on Saturday, April 27th. Entry fee is $260 per team.

Vineyard Golf at White Lake has scheduled a two-person Masters Tournament on Saturday, April 6 leading up to the week of the iconic major professional tournament.

The Vineyard Golf Masters will have a 1 p.m. shotgun with a best ball format on the front nine and Texas Scramble used on the back nine. READ MORE


Whack Smack It Golf Tournament Set June 14 At Vineyard Golf

The 2nd Annual Whack Smack It Golf Tournament to benefit the Jim and Sue Schultz Foundation is scheduled for Friday, June 14 at Vineyard Golf at White Lake.

The proceeds from the tournament will go to East Bladen and West Bladen athletic departments and Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball. Each organization received $5,000 from the Schultz Foundation from last year’s tournament.

More information about this year’s tournament will be announced at a later date.
