A staff report

In this edition of our North Carolina Highway Patrol (NCHP) Trooper Spotlight, we’re proud to highlight Sergeant Jason Weissinger, a dedicated law enforcement professional with 17 years of service. His journey is not just a career but a legacy, and today we learn more about his path, motivations, and personal interests.

Sergeant Weissinger, currently stationed in Bladen and Columbus County, has a distinguished career that began in 2007. Fresh out of patrol school at age 23, Weissinger began his first assignment in Sampson County. From there, he transferred to Robeson County before returning to his hometown in Bladen County in 2013. His dedication and service were recognized with a promotion to Sergeant in 2020, which led him to serve in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. In 2022, he returned to his home county as a Sergeant, continuing his commitment to the local community.

Weissinger’s inspiration to become a patrolman is deeply rooted in his family. His father, a retired Lieutenant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, set a powerful example that Weissinger was eager to follow. His experience as a volunteer firefighter also instilled in him a passion for serving and protecting the community.

When reflecting on his career, Weissinger takes particular pride in his promotion to sergeant, a significant milestone. However, his aspirations don’t end there—he plans to continue advancing within the ranks, hoping to become a First Sergeant in the future.

One of the most rewarding aspects of his career, according to Weissinger, is the strong sense of brotherhood he has found within the Highway Patrol. This camaraderie, along with the positive impact he has on his community and fellow officers, fuels his continued dedication to the job.

Outside of his responsibilities as a Trooper, Weissinger is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys hunting and spending time in nature, which offers a peaceful contrast to his demanding role in law enforcement.

When asked for any closing thoughts, Weissinger shared, “Becoming a Trooper was the best decision I have made for myself, and I will continue to serve and protect.” His unwavering commitment to his role and community exemplifies the true spirit of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

We are grateful to Sergeant Weissinger for his service, and we thank him for sharing his story with us. Stay tuned for more NCHP spotlights as we continue to highlight the men and women who serve and protect our state with honor and dedication.
