RALEIGH, N.C. – The Bipartisan State Board of Elections & Ethics Enforcement has released a newly designed voter registration application form, which includes the option of registering with the North Carolina Green Party.

The new application is available for download through the State Board website here. Detailed instructions are included with the form. Hard copies soon will be distributed to county boards of elections and other agencies and organizations that provide voter registration services.

The State Board recently recognized the Green Party as an official political party in the state. The new registration form allows voters to register with the Democratic, Green, Libertarian or Republican parties. Voters can also register as unaffiliated with any party.

Voters should be advised that the Green Party does not have a traditional primary election in 2018. Instead, it will choose its nominees by convention.

Voter Registration Deadline Approaching

Meanwhile, prospective voters in North Carolina have until 5 p.m. Friday, April 13 to meet the regular voter registration deadline for the May 8 primary election.

Eligible individuals who do not meet the deadline may register and vote on the same day during the one-stop early voting period, which runs from April 19 to May 5.

“We encourage all eligible individuals to register to vote to help elect their representatives in local, state and federal government,” said Kim Westbrook Strach, State Board executive director.

By state law, the regular registration deadline is 25 days before Election Day. To be effective for the May 8 primary, the registration application must be received by the applicant’s county board of elections or postmarked on or before April 13.
