State Board to host public demonstration of voting equipment

RALEIGH, N.C. – Later this month, the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement will host a public demonstration of all voting equipment under consideration for certification in North Carolina.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the State Board office in the Dobbs Building, 430 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh.

The purpose of this demonstration is for members of the State Board and the public to witness voting systems demonstrations and have their questions and concerns addressed by the vendors. This demonstration fulfills the requirements of Section 3.5.10 of the Elections Systems Certification Program adopted by the State Board in 2017.

“This is a major step in the process of reviewing new equipment before it is approved for use in North Carolina elections,” said Kim Westbrook Strach, State Board executive director. “It will give voters the opportunity to get a first glimpse at how they will cast ballots in the future.”

The vendors and the products for which they are currently seeking certification are listed below, with links to additional information:

Clear Ballot: ClearVote 1.4

Dominion Voting Systems: D-Suite 5.5-NC

Elections Systems and Software (ES&S): EVS 5.2.2.0

Hart InterCivic: Verity 2.2

Unisyn: OpenElect Voting System (OVS) 2.0

The State Board also has opened the public comment period required by Section 3.5.11 of the Elections Systems Certification Program. The comment period will be open through August 10, 2018.
