CHARLOTTE – Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) introduced legislation to crack down on international businesses that support North Korean cyberattacks.

“If you have willingly provided essential services to North Korea in support of their malicious cyberattacks, then you should not be allowed to do business with the Defense Department.  This is simple and straightforward, but also necessary because of countries such as China who attempt to play both sides,” said Congressman Pittenger.

Congressman Pittenger’s amendment to the FY2018 National Defense Authorization Act:

·       Directs the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to create a list of telecom firms who provide essential services or who have been otherwise complicit in enabling North Korean cyberattacks.

·       Prohibits the Department of Defense from doing business with these firms.

·       Provides President Trump with a national security waiver to bypass the amendment on a case-by-case basis.

On Wednesday, Congressman Pittenger discussed China’s key role in supporting the North Korean regime, and the need to now apply pressure on China.  Click here to watch his full interview with MSNBC’s Ali Velshi.
