Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected late Thursday afternoon and into the evening with more than an inch of rain forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to bring southerly winds between 13 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 39 mph. As much as two inches of rain is possible.

All Bladen County Recreation Department youth basketball games that were scheduled Thursday night have been postponed because of expected severe weather in the area.

The storm is expected to clear out by late morning Friday. Sunshine is forecast to return with a high temperature of around 60 degrees. Conditions will remain windy with gusts as high as 38 mph possible.

The National Weather Service has issues a flood warning for portions of the Cape Fear River in Bladen County at William O. Huske Lock and Dam 3 and the locks in Elizabethtown.

The locks in Elizabethtown is expected to reach its 25 foot flood stage Saturday night and peak Monday morning at 29.6 feet.

People with interests along the river should take the necessary precautions to protect life and property from the flood waters.
