The temperatures were high Saturday, August 6th, but it didn’t stop folks from supporting the Fifty-Fifty Fear Factor Fundraiser held at Dublin Motor Speedway.

The fundraiser was organized by the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club and Bladen County Emergency Services. According to the organizers, fifty percent of the proceeds will go towards the Bladen County Emergency Services Training Facility and the other half will go to the Kiwanis’ children’s programs.

The event started with Elizabethtown Kiwanis’ President, Jeff Futrell, welcoming everyone and Alyssa Bell singing the National Anthem. The festivities consisted of a Fun Run, Apparatus Races, a Mud Tug of War, bounce houses, lots of food, games, and a DJ for entertainment.

Bladenboro, Clarkton, Dublin, White Oak, and Elizabethtown Fire Departments were all present to lend a hand and to compete in the races. Bladen County Emergency Services was well represented show casing their skills, tools and vehicles. Along with the Kiwanis Club’s members, the Boy Scouts Troop 622 was also on the scene helping with the event.

The first place winner in the fun run was Zachary Hursey. The EMS Apparatus Race was concurred by first place team members Erica Ransom and Austin Parks. The Firefighter’s Bucket Barricade Apparatus Race was close, but Elizabethtown Fire Department came in first place. Rj Bailey, with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department, took home the Law Enforcement first place trophy.

 

Bradley Kinlaw, Bladen County Emergency Services Director, was a good sport allowing people to dunk him for the cause. He said, “It has been a lot of fun.”

In reference to the facility needs, he said, “The training facility needs work, all the help we can get with it is greatly appreciated.”

Futrell, with Kiwanis said about the event, “I think it was a success and a great foundation to build on for the future.”

The organizers could not give the total amount raised due to funds still coming in for the event, but said the event did raise money for both causes and was a success.

Chase Lancaster, with Bladen County Emergency Services announced at the event there will be another fundraiser to help with the training facility needs. There will be a Public Safety Softball Tournament on October 1st, 2016 at Bladen County Park. Any public safety entity is welcome and asked to play.
