A trailblazer of our own, Bladen County Detective, Sue Lutz retired from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department effective November 1st and was honored at the Commissioner’s meeting Monday evening.

Lutz was the first woman detective in Bladen County back in 1991 according to former Sheriff Storms.

When we asked the retiring detective what was her favorite part about her job, she said, “Being able to bring closure to the victims of these assaults.”

According to Lutz she started as a Jailer in Bladen County. She wore many hats through her 25 years of service in Bladen and Robeson Counties. From Jailer, Bailiff, School Resource Officer, 911 Supervisor to Detective, Lutz raised through the ranks due to her dedication and work ethic according to her co-workers.

Her favorite hat, “being a voice for these kids that don’t have a voice.”

After twenty-five years on the job, we asked the newly retired career lady what she would be doing with her time now. She said she had a 14 year old son she would be home schooling and she will be traveling to Florida.
