The last “Summer Sounds” concert was named a retirement party for the retired Chief of Elizabethtown Police Department, Bobby Kinlaw by Dawn Maynard, the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. The local Black Water Rhythm and Blues band always knows how to entertain the crowds and was the perfect fit for the last concert, turned retirement party.

Thursday, August 27th was Chief Kinlaw’s last day at the department. Kinlaw has served Elizabethtown since the 1980’s and holds high esteem in the eyes of our community. Kinlaw was surrounded by grateful friends and Elizabethtown residents praising him for his many years of service. Dawn said, “We are going to miss you Bobbie, but are glad you will still be around. If you get a chance, go by and shake his hand.”

Thanks to the hard work of Dawn Manyard, Ashley Dowless, (with Cape Fear Valley – Bladen County Hospital), many Chamber volunteers, and the generous sponsors of the “Summer Sounds” concerts the series was a validated success. There were visitors from as far away as Honolulu Hawaii in our county on Thursday evening. Manyard estimated there were 600 to 700 in attendance.

Mayor Sylvia Campbell, “Dawn has worked hard on making these concerts a success and we want to thank her.”

Niki Dennis said, “I hope they have some more concerts. I have had an absolute blast.”

Mayor Campbell said, “I have talked with Dawn and she is working on having more concerts next year. Dawn was able to get 30 plus sponsors this year.” If you would like to be a sponsor of next year’s concert series, please contact the Chamber office.
