Original story

A line of strong thunderstorms rolled through Bladen County on Sunday and was the cause of at least one structure fire.

According to Bladen County Fire Marshal Ken Clark, three fires were reported in Bladen County on Sunday evening and at least one of those fires was the result of a lightning strike. Clark said the fire reported to have been caused by a lightning strike ocurred at 6 LC Street in White Lake.

There was a lightning strike reported at Camp Clearwater in White Lake on Sunday. Larry Barnahrdt with Camp Clearwater said lightning struck a tree and “ran in on” two campers in the overnight section of the camp. The campers were located on lots 5 and 6 in the overnight section and the lightning “took out” some electrical components inside the campers, according to Barnhardt. He said officials with Camp Clearwater are working to assist the campers’ owners with repairs.

“It didn’t burn any thing,” said Barnhardt of the strike.

The tree which was originally struck did burn and the White Lake Fire Department responded to the scene. No one was injured in the incident.

Clark said Bladen County Emergency Management officials are continuing to perform damage assessments on Monday morning.
