CromartieThe suspect in a gang-related shooting that took place in January in Elizabethtown is back in Bladen County and being held in the Bladen County Jail under a $2.6 million bond.

The Elizabethtown Police Department has been actively searching for Meredith Cromartie since the January 18 shooting.

After following up on multiple leads, Detective Jeff Guyton received information that Cromartie may be hiding out in another county.  Det. Guyton made contact with the US Marshall Service and requested their assistance with locating Cromartie,” said Interim Elizabethtown Police Chief Kip Hester.

At about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, the Elizabethtown Police Department was notified that the US Marshal’s Office had arrested Cromarite at the Tobacco World located at 6085 Raeford Rd. in Fayetteville.

According to Hester, Cromartie was returned by US Marshals to the Elizabethtown Police Department where he was charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, going armed to the terror of the public, and discharging a weapon in the city limits.  Cromartie is being held under a $2.6 million secured bond.

We have been working closely with the Bladen County District Attorney’s office and the US Marshalls Service to assure that violent offenders, such as Cromartie are taken off the streets and incarcerated to keep our citizens safe,” said Hester.
