HOLLY SPRINGS – Wake Forest scored 11 runs in the fourth inning and defeated Bladen County 19-9 Saturday in the StateWide Activities Committee 12-and-Under Softball Sectional Tournament.

The two teams were tied 8-8 when Wake Forest turned four walks, four errors and three hits into eleven runs in the fourth inning.

Martha Simmons walked and stole second base, third base and home plate for the final Bladen run in the bottom of the fourth.

Wake Forest had grabbed the early lead with three runs in the top of the first, but Bladen County answered with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Lena Trinidad and Megan Pait drew walks to start the inning. Simmons reached on a fielder’s choice that retired Pait. Trinidad stole home on the back-end of a double steal with Simmons. Marlie Walters reached base on an error that allowed Simmons to score.

Molly Pait reached base on an error that scored Walters. Emmee Ward reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Brookee Singletary walked. Reagan Moore, the courtesy runner for Molly Pait, stole home. Violet Allen walked, and Mary Frances Sutton, the courtesy runner for Ward, stole home.

Trinidad launched a fly ball to center field that was misplayed allowing Singletary and Allen to score and give Bladen County a 7-3 lead.

Wake Forest rallied with five runs in the top of the second inning to take an 8-7 lead, but Simmons hammered a double to left field then raced home with the tying run when Walters reached base on an error.

Simmons doubled and Trinidad singled for the Bladen County hits. Simmons scored three runs, and Trinidad, Walters, Singletary, Allen, Moore, and Sutton scored one run each.

Ward started in the circle for Bladen County and struck out four batters.
