GREENVILLE – Justin Lee Myers was sentenced to 14 years in prison Wednesday on drug trafficking and money laundering charges, according to the office of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina Robert J. Higdon Jr.
Myers, 34, of Tabor City, was among eight people charged as part of a 22-count indictment filed Nov. 19, 2017.
Myers pled guilty Feb. 5 to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base (crack), heroin, fentanyl and marijuana, and to conspiracy to commit money laundering.
According to a news release, beginning in December 2008, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls involving the various criminal and drug related activity in an area known as the “Sandpit,” an area that consists of about 25 mobile homes that is only reachable after passing through a manned checkpoint. The checkpoint was normally manned by one or two people.
Wire intercepts, confidential informants and surveillance confirmed that the Myers Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) primarily operated in Columbus County. From February to May in 2017, confidential informants were used to conduct a series of controlled purchases from members of DTO. Witness statements and subsequent wire intercepts determined that Myers supplied heroin, cocaine, crack and marijuana, in addition to directing co-conspirators.
The investigation found that Myers and others had attempted to launder the proceeds of their drug trafficking.
Myers purchased a 2014 Corvette from Everett Chevrolet in Hickory for $67,634, a 2014 Porsche from Island Chrysler in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, for $77,983 and several other vehicles claiming his income as
legitimate as the owner/operator of Monte Cutz Barber Shop, according to the news release.
