Five inmates at the Tabor Correctional Institute in Columbus County could be facing charges after another inmate was attacked on Wednesday morning. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, prison officials are meeting with the District Attorney’s Office about filing charges. 

The assault happened at about 7 a.m. sending the victim to the hospital according to reports. 

A separate incident also is reported to have occurred at the Columbus Correctional Institution. That assault took place at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The victim in that incident declined to identify his assailant to the authorities.
