TAR HEEL – I’Keir Murchison fired in 19 points Tuesday night to lead Tar Heel’s Panthers to a 28-23 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Elizabethtown.
Murchison dropped in a basket, and Messyah Whitted made a free throw for Tar Heel in the first quarter. DeJohn Lesane answered with a basket for the Cougars, and Darius Williamson added a free throw to keep the teams tied 3-3 at the quarter break.

Murchison drained a 3-point shot, 2 free throws and 2 more baskets in the second period as the Panthers edged in front 12-11 at halftime. Chris Harding pumped in 2 baskets, Dominick Collins tossed in a basket, and Williamson and J’Marius Smith netted free throws to keep the Cougars close.
The Panthers padded their lead to 20-15 in the third quarter as Murchison threw in 2 baskets, and Whitted and Cornelius Esters connected for a basket each. Collins and Williamson popped in baskets for the Cougars.
Collins nailed a 3-point shot, and Lesane racked up 2 baskets and a free throw in the final quarter, but Murchison kept the Panthers on top with a pair of baskets, and Esters and Stefane Jessup scored a basket each.
Esters finished with 4 points for Tar Heel. Lesane and Collins topped the Elizabethtown scoring with 7 points each, and Williamson and Harding totaled 4 points each.
Coach Priscilla Council’s Panthers claimed their first win of the season and will host West Columbus Thursday. Elizabethtown will travel to Williams Township Thursday.
