North Carolina’s electric cooperatives, including Four County EMC, are accepting applications for Bright Ideas education grants to fund creative, classroom-based learning projects.  The final deadline to apply is September 18, 2015, but teachers who submit their application by the ‘early bird’ deadline of August 14 will be entered for a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards.
“We’re proud to support educators who give so much to their students,” said Gay Johnson, Director of Corporate Communications.  “With our Bright Ideas grants and early bird prizes, we’re excited to offer something in return.  We encourage all interested teachers to submit an application by Friday, August 14 for a chance to win an extra $100.”
Teachers can apply for Bright Ideas grants up to $2,000, which is part of $600,000 in Bright Ideas funding that will be awarded to teachers statewide during the 2015-2016 school year.  Classroom teachers at qualifying schools in Bladen, Duplin, Pender and Sampson counties can apply for grants individually or as a team.  Last year, Four County EMC awarded over $19,500 locally to fund 23 projects at 14 schools. The application, grant-writing tips, and more information about the Bright Ideas education grant program can be found at http://www.ncbrightideas.com/.
A total of five $100 Visa gift cards will also be awarded in late August to teachers who submit their applications before the August 14 ‘early bird’ deadline.  These winners will be notified, and recognized on the Bright Ideas website and Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ncbrightideas.
“Four County EMC believes there’s no better way to support education and contribute to our local communities than by partnering with teachers to enhance learning opportunities for our future leaders,” Johnson said.
Since the program began in 1994, Four County EMC has contributed more than $357,800 to local teachers to sponsor approximately 400 projects in all subjects, benefiting four counties in our service area (Bladen, Duplin, Pender and Sampson).
North Carolina’s electric cooperatives collectively have awarded more than $9.6 million to teachers across the state for 9,200 projects in all subjects, benefiting more than 1.8 million North Carolina students.  Each year, close to 600 grants are funded across the state.
The Bright Ideas education grant program is an example of the electric cooperatives’ commitment to community.
