The parade was organized by Bladen County Sheriff, Jim McVicker, and his team, according to Ashley Dowless with Cape Fear Valley-Bladen County Hospital. Emergency Responders from across Bladen County came together to pay tribute to individuals who stand on the front lines each day through the North Carolina COVID-19 outbreak.

The Sheriff and his team thanked the hospital staff and other first responders over a loud speaker during the event. McVicker’s Office also provided a large digital sign located at the hospital displaying, “Thank You Bladen Heroes”.

Patti Yandle, Bladen County Safety Tele-communicator said she was glad to see the Sheriff follow suit in a parade for local Heroes. According to Yandle several other counties held parade events for their hospitals and emergency responders.

There were approximately 30 bystanders watching the parade. Hospital staff members watched the parade in their personal protective equipment. Some local officials were in attendance along with Sheriff McVicker. Bladen County Commissioner, Charles Ray Peterson, Elizabethtown Mayor, Sylvia Campbell, and Elizabethtown Council member, Ricky Leinwand, watched and waved as the parade passed by.
