ELIZABETHTOWN, NC – If your pantry is missing a little homemade sparkle—or you’re just tired of store-bought jelly that tastes like regret—it’s time to roll up your sleeves and preserve the flavor! The NC Cooperative Extension is offering a deliciously fun and free class to help you master the art of water bath canning.

Mark your calendars: you’ve got two chances to hop into the canning kettle! Join on June 2 from 6–8 p.m. or June 3 from 10 a.m.–12 noon at the Bladen Extension Office, located at 450 Smith Circle, Elizabethtown.

Whether you’re a beginner hoping to make your first jar of strawberry jam or a seasoned preserver looking to brush up on your skills, this FREE class will walk you through the water bath canning method—a safe and time-honored way to store fruits, pickles, jams, and all that garden goodness.

“Our goal is to make preserving food accessible, fun, and something the whole family can benefit from,” says Jessie Jones, Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent. “It’s not just about saving food—it’s about savoring memories.”

Let’s face it: rural living is rich with harvests, but without the right know-how, that bounty can go to waste. So come learn to seal your hard work into jars of sunshine, one boiling pot at a time.

To register or get more info, contact Jessie Jones at 910-862-4591 or jessie_jones@ncsu.edu. And remember, if you need special accommodations, reach out at least 7 days in advance.

Preserving food isn’t just practical—it’s a celebration of local flavors, family tradition, and good old-fashioned self-reliance. Don’t miss your chance to turn fresh into forever!
