The United Way 5K Color Fun Run and Walk was a great success this Saturday morning. One of the event organizers, Bob Mundy announced at the start the participates had helped raise a lot of money for our local Bladen County United Way.

The event was held at the Industrial Park in Elizabethtown. Boy Scout Troop 600 assisted in parking and volunteers from Bladen Community College, Bladen County Health Department, Bladen County Ag Extension and other community members came out to help out to make the event possible.

When we asked who the winners of the race were, “No winners it’s all fun.” Said Bob Mundy.

When we asked Harrison DeVane, a race participant each year, what it was like to run the 5K, he said, “Dirty! Paint flying everywhere. It’s fun.”

The proceeds of the event go to Bladen County United Way. A local non-profit that meets many needs in our area. The United Way will hold their annual “Day of Caring” on Nov. 3. Everyone is invited to participate.
