Spread the love

Wilmington, NC  – The Salvation Army is on the ground serving people in communities impacted by Hurricane Florence. Nearly 50 mobile feeding units with crews of food service workers and emotional and spiritual care specialists are working to feed, hydrate, and give hope to people across North and South Carolina.

In some areas, food is being prepared by partners such as Operation BBQ Relief, South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief and North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief. The Salvation Army has also supplied a shower trailer from Florida to support a shelter in New Bern, North Carolina.

Personal comfort kits and clean-up kits are being distributed to households who are returning to flooded homes. Clean-up kits have a variety of much-needed supplies such as gloves, bleach, hard-bristled brushes and other cleaning tools all packaged in a 5-gallon bucket.

Though power is returning and recovery is moving quickly in the city of Wilmington, Hurricane Florence continues to cause flooding issues throughout the Cape Fear area. The Salvation Army’s disaster services command based in Wilmington is currently serving New Hanover, Pender, Columbus, Brunswick, and Bladen Counties.

As waters recede, The Salvation Army is evaluating need, planning mobile feeding unit deployment and resource distributions for those who are seeking assistance.

As of September 24, The Salvation Army has provided the following to those impacted by Hurricane Florence in the Wilmington/Cape Fear region:

Meals: 98,849
Drinks: 58,258
Snacks: 40,118
Emotional and Spiritual Care: 7,457
Hygiene/Comfort Kits: 521
