1904 – Stage play “Peter Pan” by J.M. Barrie premieres at the Duke of York Theatre in London.

1915 – U.S. Iron and Steel workers begin a 3-week strike in Ohio for an eight-hour-day. They are successful as the United States needs steel for armaments during World War I.

1924 – The United States signs a treaty with the Dominican Republic which supersedes that of 1907. In July, the United States had withdrawn its Marines and ended its occupation.

1932 – Radio City Music Hall, designed by Edward Durell Stone and Donald Deskey, opens at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, New York City.

1939 – First American skimobiles are used in North Conway, New Hampshire.

1945 – The World Bank was created with the signing of an agreement by 28 nations.

1947 – The first “Howdy Doody Show” in Puppet Playhouse is telecast on NBC.

1956 – Boston Celtics’ Bill Sharman ends his NBA-record free throw streak of 55 consecutive shots made.

1964 – The first appearance of The Supremes on “The Ed Sullivan Show” singing “Come See About Me.”

1968 – Apollo 8 returns to Earth after orbiting the moon 10 times.

1974 – 40th Heisman Trophy Award: Archie Griffin, Ohio State running back.

1979 – Soap Opera “Knots Landing” premieres on CBS-TV.

1986 – Musical “Les Miserables” opens in the United States at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

1991 – The Cincinnati Bengals hire 32-year-old David Shula, who becomes the youngest NFL coach.

1993 – Dow Jones Industrial Average hits record 3,792.93.

1999 – Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche records his 1,000th career National Hockey League point, an assist against the St. Louis Blues.

2001 – The People’s Republic of China is granted permanent normal trade relations with the United States.

2009 – The World Health Organization says 208 countries, territories and communities have reported H1N1 flu cases, including at least 12,220 deaths.

2012 – NASA unveils plans to capture a 500-ton asteroid in 2025.

2022 – Luka Doncic becomes the first player to register a 60-21-10 triple-double in NBA history as the Dallas Mavericks beat the New York Knicks, 126-121. It’s the first 60-point game in Mavericks franchise history. He had 21 rebounds and 10 assists.
