1911 – Willis Carter presents his influential “Rational Psychrometric Formulae” on air conditioning to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

1933 – As part of a famous MLB fire sale of players, Philadelphia A’s owner Connie Mack sells catcher Mickey Cochrane to Detroit for $100,000; Cochrane is immediately named Tiger manager.
