1992 – San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice catches an NFL record 101st touchdown in a 27-3 win over the Miami Dolphins at Candlestick Park.

1994 – Warner Brothers announces a fifth TV network, the Tribune-Time Warner network, to begin on January 11, 1995.

2006 – NASA reveals photographs taken by Mars Global Surveyor that suggest the presence of liquid water on Mars.

2017 – Skirball wildfire near Los Angeles closes Interstate 405 as thousands of people are forced to evacuate.

2020 – President Donald Trump orders 700 troops withdrawn from Somalia.

2023 – Taylor Swift is named Time’s Person of the Year.
