1860 – Republican Abraham Lincoln of Illinois elected as the 10th President of the United States of America.

1917 – New York State adopts a constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote in state elections.

1918 – World War I: On the Western Front, Germany is now retreating as French and American troops cross the Meuse River and move to take Sedan.

1928 – Colonel Jacob Schick patents first electric razor.

1934 – NFL: The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cincinnati Reds 64-0.

1936 – RCA displays its television at a news conference.

1940 – Franklin D. Roosevelt re-elected as President.

1941 – United States lends the Soviet Union $1 million.

1947 – NBC’s “Meet the Press” debuts. It’s the longest running television show in the United States.

1958 – The American League announces that Kansas City will play a league-record 52 night games in 1959.

1966 – First entire lineup televised in color by NBC.

1967 – United States launches Surveyor 6. It makes a soft landing on the moon November 9.

1976 – Former Minnesota Twins relief ace Bill Campbell is the first free-agent to sign with a new team, joining the Boston Red Sox for $1 million over four years.

1984 – Incumbent Republican President Ronald Reagan re-elected President of the United States in a landslide. He wins 49 states and defeats Democrat Walter Mondale.

1990 – Atlanta Braves outfielder David Justice wins National League Rookie of the Year.

1995 – Art Modell officially announces the NFL’s Cleveland Browns are moving to Baltimore, Maryland.

2001 – Crude oil for December delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NUMEX) falls to a two-year low after OPEC members warn that a downward price spiral could occur if major non-OPEC oil exporters do not reduce oil production.

2012 — Barack Obama is re-elected as President, defeating Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

2018 – In midterm elections, Democrats retake control of the House of Representatives after eight years with the Senate remaining with Republicans.

2022 – Powerball jackpot rises to a world record of $1.9 billion after no winners for more than three months.
