RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department’s weekly newscast.

Litter Collection Milestone

The Fall Litter Sweep, which ran from Sept. 11-25, saw NCDOT crews, contractors and hundreds of volunteers out in force, helping to keep North Carolina roadways clean.

This year, the Sweep pushed litter pickup to a new milestone. Since Jan. 1, NCDOT crews and volunteers have collected over 10 million pounds of litter.

Disadvantaged Business Outreach

NCDOT has been hosting outreach events to ensure small, minority-owned and women-owned businesses are aware of how they can compete for state transportation contracting opportunities.

Transportation contracts are available for construction and maintenance, mowing, litter pickup, tree cutting, emergency work, and snow and ice removal.

This second round of outreach in September was attended by 116 people, representing 103 firms.
