RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department’s weekly newscast.

Political Signs

Early voting is underway, ahead of North Carolina’s primary election day on March 5.

There are legal requirements for placing political signs along some state-maintained roadsides:

Signs can be placed 30 days prior to early voting, and up to 10 days following the primary election date.
The signs must be within 3 feet of the road pavement and should not exceed 42 inches in height.
Signs should not obscure driver visibility at any intersection.
Those placing signs must obtain permission from property owners of a residence, business or religious institution.

Any signs that violate the general statutes and create safety hazards may be removed by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Hiring Events

NCDOT is actively recruiting full-time, part-time and seasonal positions for the N.C. Ferry Division.

Several job fairs will be held in February and March in the state’s coastal region.

Hiring teams will be onsite for interviews during the job fairs. Those interested can apply online ahead of time or bring a completed paper application to the event.

Transportation Conferences

Registration is now open for both the North Carolina Traffic Safety Conference and the North Carolina Transportation Summit.

This year’s N.C. Traffic Safety Conference will be from April 23rd through the 25th at the Greenville Convention Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to network and discover traffic safety solutions to create a safer North Carolina.

Fast forward a month. The fifth annual N.C. Transportation Summit is set for May 21st and 22nd at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro. The annual event explores topics related to safety, funding and innovation for North Carolina’s growing population and transportation needs.
