This scholarship was established by Thomas and Darcy Mundell to facilitate general education in agriculture in the community and to further develop the next level of agriculture education. This generous endowment will create a new scholarship, in addition to the Mundell Homestead Agribusiness Scholarship they already support, further demonstrating the Mundell family’s commitment to “building and supporting the community.”

After retiring from a distinguished military career, Thom and Darcy Mundell moved to Bladen County, where they purchased land in White Oak to fulfill their dream of creating a homestead. Drawing on his rural Virginia upbringing on a hog farm, Thom sought to deepen his agricultural knowledge and enrolled in BCC’s Agriculture Program in 2021. The program provided him with hands-on training in key areas such as animal health management, basic farm maintenance, soil management, and plant science.

Thom was one of the first graduates of BCC’s Agriculture Program, completing his studies in the spring of 2022. During his time at BCC, Thom witnessed firsthand the strong support from the college and the community for the program. Following his graduation, he saw significant growth in enrollment and the expansion of the Agriculture Program. Inspired by this progress and the strong community bonds, Thom and Darcy established the Mundell Homestead Agribusiness Scholarship in the spring of 2022.

Given the ongoing success and expansion of the agriculture program, the Thomas and Darcy Mundell Agriculture Endowed Scholarship was created to provide long-term support for agriculture students, leaving a lasting legacy in the community they deeply cherish.

Bladen Community College’s Agriculture Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience through hands-on training with resources like the college’s greenhouse and goats, providing critical practical skills in animal care, plant science, and farm operations.

Enrollment is now open for the upcoming semester, and we encourage anyone interested in a career in agriculture to explore what BCC’s Agriculture Program has to offer. With scholarships such as the Mundell’s, students have an even greater opportunity to pursue their educational goals without financial barriers. Students interested in the Thomas and Darcy Mundell Agriculture Endowed Scholarship, or the Mundell Homestead Agribusiness Scholarship are encouraged to apply at the Bladen Community College Foundation or Financial Aid Offices.
