Kayla Thompson, Bladen County’s professional golfer, made the cut in the Mackie Construction Pro Golf Classic played in Abilene, Texas this week. She shot 77-77 in the first two rounds but skied to 91-81 in the final two rounds to shoot a score of 326 in the Women’s All Pro Tour tournament.

Thompson went out in 50 in Thursday’s third round, which included a 10 on the par-5 third hole. She also had four double bogeys.

In Friday’s final round, Thompson made par on the third hole and also had an eagle on the par-5 14th.

Thompson is a graduate of West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington.

Kathleen Scavo of Benicia, California, defeated Julie Houston of Allen, Texas, on the second playoff hole to win the tournament. The pair finished tied at 1-under 287 on the par-72, 6,497-yard Abilene Country Club South course. Scavo won $11,000 for the win from the purse of $60,000.

Thompson is scheduled to play in the Wichita Falls Championship in Wichita Falls, Texas next week.
