Bladen County’s pro golfer Kayla Thompson made the cut in the Mackie Construction Pro Golf Classic in Abilene, Texas. She shot 77-77=154. The cut was made after Wednesday’s second round in the Women’s All Pro Tour tournament.

Thompson, a graduate of West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington, is at plus-10 and among eight players tied for 32nd. The tournament is being played on the 6,497-yard, par-72 Abilene Country Club South Course.

Julie Houston (Allen, TX) led after the first round and continues to lead heading into round three. Houston made her first bogey of the tournament on her 23rd hole. Houston has been dialed in with her irons and has been able to get putts to drop when needed. To add to Houston’s already great week, she would make a hole-in-one on No. 4. The ace came on her second nine of the day and moved her back into red numbers on the round. Houston stayed in the red for the rest of her round and finish with a 71 (-1). She was at 6-under and held a three-shot lead heading into moving day Thursday.

Pun Chanachai (Thailand) had one of the best rounds of Wednesday that moved her into solo possession of second. Chanachai is the only other player outside of Houston who was able to put together back to back under par rounds. The 71 (-1) in the first round was followed by a 70 (-2) and moved her to 3-under for the tournament and three shots back.

The third round is scheduled Thursday with the field looking to make a push up the leaderboard on moving day.
