Thoughts While ShavingWhy do we do what we do?  Why do we work hard to provide the news to Bladen County area residents and surrounding areas…at no cost to the subscribers?

Woke up during the night and that was on my mind…If not us, who and if not now, when?
What sets BladenOnline a part from other news sources?
We do more original articles than anyone.   Not condemning anyone…just the facts.
Covering the news means we cover local agencies, every month… Bladen County, Bladen County Board of Ed, Town of Elizabethtown, Town of Bladenboro, Town of White Lake and from time to time Dublin and Clarkton and we have covered Tar Heel…Why?  For many residents what happens at those meetings have an effect on their lives.
We are not a clipping service.  We do use regional, state and national sources for articles, news releases, that impact Bladen County residents.
We know that over 98% of our readers either live in Bladen, have lived here or have relatives or other interest in the area.
We want you to know about our youngsters who go off to school, many play sports and we attempt to keep up with them, some we do well, some not so well… but better than anyone else.
Yesterday, had the pleasure of visiting the ribbon cutting of a new state-of-the-art headquarters of Sampson Bladen Oil Company in Clinton.  One of the attendees was Dr. Jerry Wallace, former pastor at Elizabethtown Baptist Church and recently retired Campbell University President… a man many locals love and have “huge” respect for…including me… Guess what, he told me he reads BladenOnline… He had sent me an email a couple of years ago expressing his appreciation for the service… Dr. Wallace reads BladenOnline??? My chest swelled with pride.  (more on ribbon cutting soon)
One other interesting note.  Charlotte Smith recently wrote an article about a visit by someone attempting to sell vacuum cleaners.  It was near dark, someone standing at her door… further investigation indicated 4 or 5 more people in a van in her yard.  A call to a Wilmington dealer was detailed… Recently, I received a call from a lady in South Carolina asking for details of the events.  Turns out, apparently the same crew was working in her neighborhood… BladenOnline touches many… daily.
Local folks serving local folks, but reaching out in the state, nearby states and around the world… That is just a snapshot of BladenOnline.
And… The Best Is Yet To Come.
I am so proud of what we do, the service we provide and the folks who do it daily… many part-time… but totally devoted to the task… and many who are involved in many of the “do-good” activities in the area… Not just reporters, active participants in making Bladen better.
There are two types of people, those who do the work, and those who take the credit.  Try to be in the first group, there is less competition there. (Indira Gandhi)
