Thoughts While ShavingJune 4th is a special day for me… My late mom’s birthday… If I had listened and obeyed… I would have faced less obstacles over the years… She provided good advice… Sometimes (many times) I failed to follow.
Bladen laid a good man to rest Wednesday.  Ben Greene was a private, knowledgeable, good man.  No one knows all he has done to make Bladen better… but his contributions to EDC efforts in Bladen are numerous.
John McMillan, East Bladen Principal, apparently will be departing… Info indicates contract not renewed by Board of Ed… How many principals at East Bladen do you recall… Jeremy Batchelor left for a Mecklenburg position.  John R. “Rob” Spainhour left for a Pender County job… soon departed the scene and moved on.  Spainhour was also an Episcopal Priest.
Not sure why or how I remembered…can’t remember anything…but thought about Albert Gainey, former Elizabethtown principal…The year?? not sure of the year, but in the early 80’s.
This is a huge day for three Bladen County groups… Bladen Community College, Bladen County Schools and the Town of Elizabethtown/Bladen Agri-Industrial applied for grants through the Golden Leaf Foundation…and the GLF Board meets today. The total request is for about $1.5 million. Chances that all will be granted are slim and there is no guarantee that any will… The competition is keen and includes several other locations… May take a few days for an official announcement.  The Board meets today in Rocky Mount. Golden Leaf receives millions of dollars as a part of the settlement years ago with the federal government’s suit against tobacco companies.  The proceeds are suppose to be used in counties that relied heavily on tobacco as a source of income.
A week ago, the big news was the closing of the Aladdin Sweepstakes businesses in Dublin and a much smaller operation in Tar Heel.  Arrests were made…Will be an interesting case to follow… Jeff Smith has been in court before and will not go down without a fight.
If you haven’t read our article on Southeastern Carolina Crossroads, find it and read it. A Good Cause…Good Article… Further proof BladenOnline  provides a valuable service… If not us who, if not now, when…and there is more to come…
Did you ever walk into a room and forget why you walked in?  I think that is how dogs spend their lives. (Sue Murphy)
Do all you should, not all you could.
Do for others with no desire of returned favor….We all should plant some trees we’ll never sit under.
