Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingBeen thinking about my mom who died 11 years ago…April 2004….well into her 80s…She was a strong lady…6 children and most, maybe all weighed over 10 pounds…Apparently, “healthy” babies were big babies….and best I can tell, for the most part, all are still in reasonably good health..

My mom loved her family, Zion Hill Baptist Church, and Kentucky Fried Chicken….She retired from Acme Electric in Lumberton and drew a hefty retirement check of about $30…that with her small social security was her income…Often thought I should take my bills and ‘pay check’ to her….let her deal with it…she had lots of experience with stretching a dollar…

She was ready to go any time, any place…When ask if she would like to go…anyplace…even California..her response was….don’t ask if you aren’t serious….and she could pack in a short time..

She taught us that going to church was important, not an option….For the most part, her health was good for an 80 plus year old lady….

She never fully recovered from a failed marriage, when her wedding vows were broken, not her choice.  She fell, struck her head on the floor, apparently had bleeding on her brain…She talked with my sister, bid her goodnight and never spoke again…

My mom was special….She read her bible, believed in televangelists such as Billy Graham…was a member of the choir at Zion Hill Baptist Church for years….loved for her children to join her for special occasions at church…loved her siblings….and neighbors….

Wish you could have known Miss Myrtle…..

A reminder of Special Olympics and the Bladen We Care Gala….tomorrow..

It takes a day to find a friend, a moment to lose them but a lifetime to forget them.

Friendship is not about who came first or who cares the most, it is all about who came in your life and never left.

The older I get, the smarter my mom gets.

When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water….
