Thoughts While Shaving

Spread the love
Let me add my congratulations to all the others, to the West Bladen Dixie Pre-Majors baseball team for their victory yesterday and wish them the best in their game today against the team from Halifax, Virginia at 5 p.m. Enjoy  Follow on Scorecast, thanks to Sonny Jones and BladenOnline….
The Jones family is enjoying I know….Sonny coached Little League for many years on his arrival in Bladen County and his bride was a good athlete at Clarkton High School…and Ray, the son, is the second baseman on the West Bladen team that turned 3 double plays in yesterday’s game.  That is a thrill for any parent, grandparent, friend.
All the parents, players, coaches are to be commended….memories to cherish for a lifetime….
Hope they bring home the big trophy….
Scorecast is another first for BladenOnline.  It was introduced last year on BladenOnline..and was quiet a hit and even more so this year.  Connection to phone service was a problem yesterday…The game today will be played on a different field where we are told there is Wi-Fi.  We hope…
Yesterday, while watching Scorecast and enjoying, I found a box in the attic with so many items that brought back many memories….When I was at WBLA in the 60’s and 70’s we named all star teams in the major sports….had a sponsor, sometimes we had enjoyed a meal and passed out small trophies….In the box is a list of some of the all-star teams…When I complete my sorting out, will share….Names of folks now in their late middle ages…Will take a few days…
BladenOnline has been a real joy for me….It all begin in February 2008 with a dream…Mike Simmons and I were going to do it but Mike died before we put it all together…So it has been a solo trip…til I sold to Charlotte Smith who allows me to play a small part as we carry on.
The real purpose of BladenOnline was to provide a local source of news for local folks by local folks..and it has been better than I ever dreamed…Not necessarily financially….It paid its way and had a little left over….but the real reason was to serve all of Bladen County and I think we have…and Scorecast is another of our discoveries when you provide a format for slightly paid volunteers to do their thing….I just love it…
Pretty cool that the West Bladen team dedicated their game to Ayven Lennon the 5 year old diagnosed with lymphoma and leukemia in May…Hope you plan to attend a fundraiser next Saturday at the Bladenboro Historical Building…
A dream is just a dream.  A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.  (Harvey Mackay)
