Thoughts While ShavingDOT engineers Rusty Marsh and Ken Clark passed along info related to the opening of two new bridges in Tar Heel, one over the Cape Fear River, should open later today… both on Tar Heel River Road. Another such project is underway in the far eastern part of the county on NC 11.  That project was funded and began several months after the Tar Heel project.  We will celebrate the Tar Heel bridges, hopefully today and the NC 11 project later.
If you enjoy viewing old cars and trucks in tip-top condition you should make plans to be in Elizabethtown Saturday. The 17th Annual Made in the Shade Car and Truck Show will be held. Bad weather had an adverse affect on last years show…. Normally, the area near San Jose restaurant is covered with old cars and trucks…. Expect another huge display of vehicles and a lots of folks this Saturday
Bladen County’s Committee of 100 is holding their annual fund-raiser at the Bladen County Ag Center.  Attendees pay $100, enjoy a good meal and an interesting program and proceeds have been used over the years to help grow economic development in the county.  The program this year will include David Clark and Mac Campbell, talking about growing a local business in these times…. Saturday….the White Oak High School reunion will be held at the newly renovated White Oak Gym….Students, teachers, employees and interested folks are invited to attend… Registration begins about 2, a meal about 4 p.m. and meeting and greeting until about 8 p.m.  A fun event… Lots of memories…..
Football practice is underway at East and West Bladen…. Last year…. cooler… no such luck this year…
Thinking… if I had all the older cars I have owned I could add substantially to the line-up under the pecan trees on West Broad Street on Saturday…. Keep in mind, most were old worn out vehicles when I became the new owner…. 47 Chevy with a vacuum shift, a 49 Plymouth, 56 Ford, 55 Chevy, a Corvair (with engine in the rear) and later a brand new Fairmont Ford…. and there were more…. The 47 Chevy and 49 Plymouth “set me back”  $200…. None would meet the standards of a “classic”…. Oh, forgot the older model Chevy I traded my pig for…. Made one trip to downtown Bladenboro, but did not get back home… Sold it for parts for $5 and the the buyer moved it off the shoulder of the road.
