Congratulations to Kinlaw Furniture…. celebrating 77 years of service to the area… It all began in 1938…. Remember Aaron Smith? He was among the early managers…. Calvin Sasser soon entered the picture and has been the owner/manager for many years. Stopped by recently, good to see Calvin in the store… He has had a few health issues…Received a nice note from Dan McLaurin thanking BladenOnline for the recent coverage of the 14th White Oak School Reunion. Attendees appear to be over 300… some from as far away as California and Ohio. The oldest attendee was in the late nineties… A salute to the organizers… According to McLaurin, “Along with the good food, fellowship, and reminiscing, many fond memories were recalled from past years.”

Received the first inquiry about a power outage shortly after 9 p.m. last evening…. Duke officials restored the service by midnight…. Affected areas included Elizabethtown, Clarkton, Bladenboro & Butters and surrounding communities….
We take so many services for granted…. but do we miss them or not? Water and electrical service tops the list…
Counties across the state are pitted against each other as the Legislature debates a change in how sales tax is distributed…. Bladen would benefit greatly if there was a change as proposed…. but, urban counties (for the most part) and the governor are opposed…. formidable opposition.
Being the imperfect individuals that we are… we complain…. it’s too hot or it’s too cold…. This morning, it was just right… A good time for an early morning walk… very nice….
