Labor Day weekend has arrived…It’s a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September and honors the labor movement. The holiday was established in 1887 by U.S. President Grover Cleveland. Canada also celebrates Labour Day at the same time, however over 80 other countries celebrate International Workers’ Day on May 1.

The Bladen County Transfer Station will be closed Monday, in observance of Labor Day. All other collection sites will be open as usual.
Labor Day is normally the last “fling” of summer for many…doesn’t have to be…September and October are wonderful times of the year for outdoor activities in Bladen County.
