Thoughts While ShavingAs I reflect on the past week  we have had a steady stream of news, but not the big story….looking forward to our weekly BladenOnline numbers from Google Analytics….I am pleased at the strength over the past few weeks, thanks to our readers, sponsors….and to the staff….The Best Is Yet To Come.   Add your business to our line-up……Call Charlotte Smith for details….910-876-5393.
One more day of the sidewalk sale in downtown Elizabethtown…..The first two days have drawn a crowd…..
I think back often to the days of W.D Gooden’s food store & Prince Brothers in Clarkton, Hinson’s Supermarket and Red & White in Bladenboro and numerous other retail outlets county-wide…Today…..mostly chain stores, small & large….and no complaints, just pointing out the differences over the years…..
In the late 50s and early 60s, the NASCAR race at Darlington, SC was a big deal for a few of us now…ole timers…. from the Bladenboro area.  We would go early…Saturday night or Sunday.  The Southern 500 race was always on Labor Day.  You could sleep in your auto or on the ground or in an old theater in Darlington for 25 cents.  The theater was never meant to replace a hotel, but it operated all night long, it was cool inside and it was inexpensive…..Met most of our requirements…..Many times the race was anti-climatic…..The real fun was what went on before the race…
Looking ahead to next Friday night’s football schedule….St. Pauls at West Bladen…East Bladen has an open date.  In the meantime, check our line-up of other local sporting events…all listed at the bottom of our Sports page….
A reminder that Monday’s line-up of monthly meetings for Bladen County and Elizabethtown are all slated for Tuesday, a day later, due to the Labor Day holiday…
Enjoy the balance of the weekend with family and friends……
To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world.
Lead you life so you won’t be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.
Following the path of least resistance is what makes rivers and men crooked.
