Thoughts While ShavingBegan thinking about city managers over the past few years, that served in Elizabethtown, Bladenboro and Bladen County …The other towns have not had a full-time manager, unless my memory is playing games…..again.

In Elizabethtown, no special order….and the list may not be complete…but those I have some knowledge of:

David Bone….departed the scene to become Wendell, NC manager. He is now county manager in Martin County, Williamston, NC. Saw him recently in Greenville, NC at NCACC Annual Meeting.

David Smitherman…David resigned from E-town position to become Lee County Manager. He left that position and began his own business. For the past several years he has worked with towns and counties securing key personnel. He has served at several locations as interim manager. His business is Bear Strategies.

Jim Freeman left Elizabethtown to become manager of Roxboro, NC. He later moved on to Havelock where he retired in the past year or so. He was recently named interim manager in Smithfield, NC. Understand the Freeman’s will eventually reside in the Statesville, NC area.

Alex Jones….former Bladen County manager retired and at last report he was in the Hendersonville, NC area.

Larry Sessoms….former Bladen County manager retired and still resides in the White Oak area.

Delane Jackson, former Bladenboro manager is now the town manager in River Bend, NC, near New Bern.

Tom Barnes, former Bladenboro manager. Last report I had he was in the Wilson area. He was former Halifax County manager.

All the news you never ask for.

Time to return to a regular schedule….back to work, back to school and for us retirees, another day off….Next holiday with some time off….Thanksgiving….

A reminder of Bladenboro Fun Day next weekend….more later….

And, tonight BladenOnline will cover meetings in Elizabethtown, Bladenboro, White Lake and Bladen County….Like the dew, we cover the county.

Today’s list of Dixie Youth players from 1977 completes the series of articles ….Think we have six different stories with about 500 or more names who were playing Dixie Youth baseball at that time….40 teams in the county according to the special edition of the Southeastern Times…Where are they now?
