Thoughts While ShavingTuesday was a news filled day…..for BladenOnline…Scroll down our news page and see, if you haven’t already.

And there’s more today. We had the local government meetings covered….Tuesday evening…

Every now and then I enjoy reflecting on ‘the way it was, years ago.’

Tobacco was king and there was a huge festival to mark the end of the season….mostly in the Clarkton area, and usually in a tobacco warehouse…A great time for friends across the county to get together…..There was food, games, farm animals and much more.

I think of my early days in Elizabethtown as a member of the Jaycees…selling football cushions, supporting so many good issues…and eventually we built the Elizabethtown Jaycee building…..The club folded years ago….so sad….I wonder what happened to the cardboard box that the new president received…with all the minutes and other important info……I remember receiving and I remember passing it along to Glen Lee when my term ended…

Glen Lee was one of those folks who passed through the area. He was a USDA employee….if my memory is correct It was during the time of farmers having their fields sprayed for witchweed….Lee eventually completed his career in Washington, DC….and I suppose the witchweed program was successful…at least we don’t hear about it anymore….Think Glen Lee has retired and returned to North Carolina…

Speaking of civic clubs….many are struggling because of low membership. So much competition for our time…Rotary, Optimist, Kiwanis, Jaycees, Ruritan and Lions Club…All were active in this area for years. Some still are and if you would like to be a member, bet you would be welcomed.

A reminder of Fun Day in Bladenboro on Saturday…

Close friends love you for who you are, not what they want you to be. Ted Rall

Rarely can you make an effective argument just by talking. The way to convince people of your point of view is to live that point of view. Ralph Marston

When you decline to grab the credit for the good things you do, others will be much more willing to work with you.
