Thoughts While ShavingAnother 90 degree day is in store for today, according to the weather folks….but cooler days are just a few weeks away….Average high for Bladen County in September is 84 and average low is 62 with just over 5 inches of rain.

With all that in mind, the average first frost for our area is between October 21 to 31 or about 6 weeks away. That date is very important. The end of grass-mowing for 2015 follows soon after.

Another reminder of Fun Day in Bladenboro Saturday….based on the past events, it really is a FUN DAY…all at the Historical Building.

Fall sports are underway at our local schools….Check John Clark’s line up daily on our Sports Page. West Bladen varsity football team entertains St. Pauls Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Knights are 2-1 in preseason play and looking forward to improving that record. East Bladen has an open date.

I enjoy looking ahead and looking back at folks who came to Bladen and made a difference….Remember when Corbett’s Men Store was on the Corner of Broad and Poplar in E-town…..John Ward’s service station was on the corner of US 701 and NC 211 in Clarkton and Hinson’s Supermarket located on Railroad Street in Bladenboro, next door to H’s Barber Shop and Buie’s Cleaners was just down the street. Hinson’s holds many memories for me….My first job in an air conditioned work place…A huge step up after ‘cropping tobacco.’

Bet you can think of people and places that have made a difference in your life……

Five positive one liners:

1. Have a firm handshake.

2. Look people in the eye

3. Sing in the shower.

4. Keep secrets.

5. Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.
