If you were around White Lake, you had company, lots of company. I understand there were 3 events, 2 on Saturday and another on Sunday….Nearly 800 athletes participated in the triathlons…We have the winners listed on our sports page.

Funeral services for Billy Harrelson will be held today…He, and his brothers, have farmed together for as long as I can remember….The team continued after their dad farmed for years…Interesting to observe their operation….Must have been a few bumps along the way…but from a distance, it was a smooth running, quiet, successful operation….Buster and Paul remain…Herschel retired earlier this year or last, Lenny died much too young and Billy has had numerous health issues over the past few years…The next generation appears to be moving forward in the farming business.

The bridge on NC 11 over the Cape Fear River in the eastern portion of the county is finally ‘open for business.’ Construction crews on the project and the Tar Heel bridge project still have work to do….The old bridges must be removed…Will take a few more months…

Old timers are likely remember Al Haemer and Fred Bush in Bladen County….remember the names??? They were among the first who came to Bladen when Veedor Root (now Danaher) opened for business in the mid-60s.
