Thoughts While ShavingAutumn has arrived….The autumnal equinox arrived precisely at 4:21 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, September 23). Today’s high temp should be in the 80 degree range. The cooler weather arrives tonight….along with the possibility of rain…..Low tonight in the mid 60’s range and high’s for the balance of the week in the mid 70’s with northerly winds in the 10 to 20 MPH range….and the leaves will be coming down…

One of major leagues greatest has died. Yogi Berra, former Yankee all-star catcher had lived in an assisted living facility in West Caldwell, NJ for the past 2 or 3 years……Casey Stengel assessed his player years ago as “a very strange fellow of very remarkable abilities.” Berra was 90 years old. An All-Star baseball player for 15 consecutive seasons. He set so many records; among them…from the 1957 through the 1959 seasons he played 148 consecutive games behind the plate without making an error….

Berra was best known for his one-liners….including one about former all-star catcher Bill Dickey….Berra said of Dickey, “he learned me all his experience.”

A reminder of the Public Safety Softball Tournament “Emergency at the Bases” at the Bladen County park on US 701 south, near the highway patrol station headquarters….Law enforcement, fire and emergency personnel will be playing softball…It will be a fun occasion for all the family….bounce houses, food and fun, lots to do…and everyone is invited…Festivities begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
