Well, well, the Municipal Election is over, sort of….We know most of the winners….The Board of Elections still has some work to do….There is a tie for one Clarkton commissioner’s seat and write-ins in Tar Heel will determine who will serve on the Town Board.
A salute to winners and thanks to those who offered themselves, but were not elected….A pool of prospects is important…
The local elections board will complete work on yesterday’s election over the next few days, all the while preparing for the next election….The last session of the legislature moved the normal May Primary up to March to hopefully have a bigger impact on the national election (President). Filing for that election will be held in December…only about a month from now….So, if you plan to seek a seat on the Board of Commissioners, Board of Education, a seat in the Legislature, or in DC…and you need more info, call or visit the local Board of Elections, located behind the E-town Post Office.
Remember when election nights drew a crowd….Still does attract many, but mostly older folks. The younger group will be watching their electronic devices for results…another of the many changes we have seen over the years. I am one of the older generation…and remember when ballots were counted one at a time with a team of three or more…pulling the ballots out of the box and calling the name..and a couple of folks tallying….Counting the votes often lasted into the wee hours. Now, if we do not know the results in an hour, do not understand why…
BladenOnline provided instant results last night, as soon as they were posted..and has since the beginning of the electronic publication in February 2008….Early numbers indicate it was well received… Thanks for continuing to depend on BladenOnline for your news, sports and more…Erin Smith, Charlotte Smith and others, including part-timers do a great job….We are better served by their efforts….
The high school fall sports schedule is winding down or has already been completed, depending on the sport….One more conference football game for the Bladen County schools….West Bladen at East Bladen Friday night….and hopefully both will participate in the state playoffs.
