Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

This morning, while shaving, I thought about the changes in the delivery of medical services that have taken place over my life time.

For years, family doctors in area towns, provided the medical services.  They even made house calls, when needed.  In fact, many babies were delivered at home.  When was the last time you heard of a house call by a doc?

Today, we have very few, if any hometown ‘private practice’ doctors.  Most of us seldom see a medical doctor.  Our medical services are provided by a Nurse Practition or a Physician’s Assistant.  Our medical provider no longer takes care of us at the hospital.  Emergency physicians and RN’s, NP’s and PA’s cover ER’s and Hospitalist take care of us if we are admitted.

Counties, for the most part, are no longer in the hospital business on a day-to-day basis.  Stand-alone hospitals are, ‘pretty much’ a thing of the past.  And local clinics are feeder-systems for larger hospitals.  If not for medicare and medicaid, I shudder to think where we would be.  I am thankful for all, but sometimes yearn for the good old days.

Remember the tree lightning ceremony in Bladenboro at 6 p.m. today…(think I stated in yesterday’s thoughts that the parade was this evening, wrong)  The parade is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday and this years’ Grand Marshall is John Rendlemen, WWAY Sports Anchor.  Questions about the parade should be directed to Amanda Sykes at 873-2627.

It is beginning to feel like winter.

The stock market is up and down like a yo-yo.  Seems more down’s than up’s.

For those who stayed up to watch the Thursday night NFL game, it was a thriller.  A successful ‘hail mary’ pass, following a controversial face mask penalty, on what would have been the last play of the game.  The penalty gave the Packers one more play and they ‘snatched’ victory from defeat.  Final score, 27-23.  Packers win over Detroit Lions.

Brad Allen of Lumberton will be the ‘white hat’ official in the Panther-Saints Sunday game in New Orleans.  Allen is in his second year as the leader of an NFL officiating crew.

No matter how you feel, Get up, Dress up, Show up and Never give up.

Success does not come to you, you go to it.

I can not do everything, but I can do something.
