Thoughts While Shaving

Two Bladen County basketball teams remain and will be involved in the Class 2-A Eastern play-offs.  John Clark has captured it all on our sports page, so no need to repeat, just check his story out and support the East Bladen girls 27-0 for the season and the West Bladen boys 20-7.  East Bladen girls will be hosting their first play-off game Tuesday and the West Bladen boys will be traveling to Goldsboro.  Congratulations to all and we are hopeful of a state championship for both teams.

The 2016 NASCAR race season is underway.  A couple of races have been run in Daytona Beach and the “big boys” open their season today.

I traveled for a while yesterday on I-95 and feel that I competed all day long.  A big difference was I had no fire suit, no helmet, did have a fast car or would have been ‘run over’ and there was no pot of gold or trophy at the finish line.  But I did arrive ‘whole and hearty’ and I am thankful.

It never ceases to amaze me at the number of people moving around on the highways and byways and there are more in the air.

Remember the days when there were no interstate roadways.  US 301 was the main connection between the northern states and Canada and Florida.  The old roadway ‘turned and twist’s’ though towns such as Lumberton and Fayetteville.  To many stoplights to count and small hotels, cabins and small restaurants were scattered along the roadways.

Fayetteville was one of the last if not the last link of the interstate.  They held out for several years before being ‘pressured’ to approve the final link.  Can you imagine the traffic jam today if not for I-95.

It, I-95, created new businesses along the way and today the speed signs must be for decoration, no sure anyone ‘pays much attention.’  Speeding is after you reach about 10 MPH above the posted limits.  Law enforcement officers are out, but can’t possibly stop all.

Another good week for BladenOnline.  Congratulations and thanks to all.
